Bed sheets; tucked, untucked, none?

Wait a sec, so people sleep under a sheet? I always figured it was just, doonahs(comforter?), blankets, or nothing. A sheet wouldn't be very warm to sleep under, and if it's hot, I can't see sleeping under it then either.
Every set of bed linens I've ever bought has had a fitted sheet and then a thinner sheet that goes over that. Maybe its an American thing? Everyone I know has their bed setup in a similar fashion.

Perhaps its a pass down from history. Back when comforters had to be used to provide maximum warmth but not necessarily the best in comfort. I imagine having a thinner sheet in between you and a heavy wool blanket would make sleeping a nicer experience.

As for me, sometimes when its excessively hot I'll sleep under only the bed sheet. Sleeping under something makes falling asleep easier for me, I'm not sure why.

Aaaacctually, I just google'd what a doonah was since I've never heard of it. Apparently a donnah replaces the need for bed sheets all together. What I'm calling a comforter is also call an elderdown (according to wikipedia at least). That could explain some of the confusion.
It might be as I to was highly confused as to why someone would sleep under a bed sheet as to the people over here that is just something to cover a mattress. Here people generally sleep under a blanket/duvet inside a cover. If it's hot I'll just remove the dovet and sleep under the cover.

But yeah the question...well I rarely make my bed as I have little reason to. But when I do I guess untucked as I love to wrap myself in my own blanket and tucking it in would just be annoying as I would just pull it out again, so there is no point.

I sleep without sheets because I apparently flail in my sleep.

Even if I fit the sheets on my bed as neatly as possible, they will have all ended up in a crumpled mess either at the foot or off to one of the sides of the bed. I just sleep without them and in the odd scenario that I actually feel cold, I just through on an extra layer of clothes.

None. I wrap my feet in a light blanket, wear the lightest pyjama bottoms I have, open my window all the way, turn the fan to full blast, don't wear a nightshirt of any kind, toss aside the comforter and lie on the bedsheets (which are whichever way they please), exposed to the air...

...and I'm STILL TOO DARN HOT.

Tucked in, because I am not an animal. Next you are going to ask whether toilet paper rolls go under or over.
Sitting on their side on the counter, obviously.

I never tuck in unless others make me do it. And by make me do it I mean they have some power over my living conditions that require me to keep them happy.

So when I lived at home, I tucked in the bed once and awhile to keep my mother happy. The last place I roomed at my landlord would come into our rooms when we were out working (rent was cheap so I never took issue with it until she stole something from me in my last month). If I don't have to and I have freedom over my bed, the sheets and blankets are everywhere!

For me the most comfortable bed is a messy one.

I don't sleep with a sheet on top of me. Just a quilt and I'll have another blanket on top during winter. I tend to wrap them around me and make a kind of cocoon so if I was in a bed with tucked sheets they'd become untucked very quickly.

I don't bother with the extra sheet. I have a fitted sheet and a duvet. I'm using a thick, down-filled duvet currently and will switch to a lighter, cotton-filled duvet in summer. In June/July when the weather is coldest I often put a polyester-fleece blanket on top of the duvet.
