OT: If its in the game, and its not a glitch, its perfectly fair. Even if it is an over-powered weapon.
Even Akimbo 1887s?
Those were just completely overpowered weapons which if you were spotted first, you'd be dead.
Even patched they're basically walking rape. I picked some up off the ground after killing a guy corner camping with them and inadvertantly camped there myself because his teammates kept rushing me.
It was at the same time the most pathetic and yet most hilarious moment of MW2 I've had the 'pleasure' to experience.

I get that they're level 67 guns and therefore you've earned them (and assuming you're going to prestige will have to earn them all over again) but there's a limit to entitlement versus game breakage.

It's not noobish to use something that was set in the game. But it is noobish to exploit game glitchs, such as instant kill spots in l4d. Some weren't ment to be there but because they are people use them all the time for cheap points

Your not a noob for taking advantage of a game strategy, especially when it's a strong one.

I get really tired of this newb-noob-n00b debate. If someone is new they are a newb why do people go out of their way to make their life hell. I remember play MW1 and getting hate mail when I used a shotgun and I was just experimenting to see what worked and what didn't. Also about main characters, I must admit that I have often smacked people for having their favorite character be the main character because I generally find them the least compelling, but I wouldn't call someone a n00b in Unreal Tournament because their skin happens to be Reaper, but I might smack them for unoriginality :p. But we tend to mix our vocab here people often call newbs: n00bs and hackers and so on lets get them straight as of this moment. Newb (and n00b) someone new to the game, or just unskilled, but this is still no reason to give them a hard time. Also newbies are people who make idiotic mistakes or stick with comfortable weapons when there are better ones available (MW fans know what I'm talking about) they ARE NOT people who use cheap or easy methods of killing people, they probably don't know what they are. I understand that it is annoying to lose because of poorly balanced teams, but still if you want all newbs and n00bs to leave and never return games will die in 5 years. Assholes people who consciously abuse game breaking abilities, normally this would be considered poor game design, but if the game is otherwise great if there just wasn't that one character/ability/gun that most people have agreed to not use because it ruins the game (like Akuma from earlier Street Fighters) then they are assholes. Now if the person is using glitches or cheats or hacks then he is a douche-bag and you should kick him/her/it from the game as quickly as possible. The title of newb/n00b has become so over used in situations in which it does not really fit new players seem to take unfair punishment and criticism. Now I have honestly never played GoW but from what it sounds like it seems like your friend is basically an elitest, he may be the greatest player of all time, and he might not be, but that isn't the point, the point is that he is (or thinks he is) so good certain techniques are beneath him, and to be quite honest there is nothing wrong with that, so long as he is not a jerk to other players, some people prefer to play without certain things because they don't suit them like how in MW2 tactical knife+commando+lightweight apparently kicks ass, but I never use that because assault rifle+shotgun is more my style. Who knows, your friend may have noticed as disadvantage to what ever those game mechanics are that the rest of us haven't noticed, or they just aren't his style, who knows.

I have never understood this either... I mean, I've been yelled at for everything in Gears. People have complained both about me using active reload and for iron sight aiming. WTF? Don't get mad at me if I'm smart enough to use things they put in the game to help me kill you easier. Granted from what I've seen of the Gears fanbase, it would be a little much to ask for them to use some sense (no offense to you if you're one of the exceptions).

If anyone's ever played a online game called 'Gunz', then you'll know that play is dominated by several gameplay glitches. The developers have done nothing to fix this, and made what could otherwise be quite a fun little shooter into something that's nigh unplayable if you don't want to cheat.

I wouldn't say active reloading is n00bish, it's things that horrifically tip the game to your advantage that's noobish in my opinion.

This.

Gears of War is one of the worst games I've seen as far as people doing this though. If you're host then you're a noob. If you use any weapon other than what you start off with, you're a noob. If you use anything other than the bullets from the weapons, you're a noob.

I mean, I find it annoying sometimes if someone uses the boomshot (grenade launcher or what have you in other games) to kill just one person, but it's part of the game.

The only thing that's cheap and noobish in my eyes are people who glitch because they can't get a kill otherwise.

I personally liked Carmine in Gears 1.

Anyway, you're friend is being silly, performing an active reload would make you the opposite of a n00b, a... b00n? As for choosing Marcus... Well I don't see his logic there, but then I havn't gotten around to getting Xbox Live.

Edit: Baird was a bit of a wanker but mostly for the missions shortly after you met him, he cooled down at some point.

Kim was cool too.

Incorrect.

Only the person who loses that battle is a n00b.

I mean, if that person uses the same basic attack over and over and over and over again... and you keep letting it hit you...

...well, let's just say you fail at pattern recognition -AND- countering a 'n00b strategy'.

It is laughable the amount of people who complain cause you are playing a game as it is meant to be played or using tools and weapons the designers implanted.

Noobs complain.
Pros deal.
Vets overcome.
Quoted for Truthery, my friend.

I am confused by this hatred of the 1887s in MW2. I use them because I like to rely on inventive route taking and reaction speed gameplay. I don't have the patience to camp behind some cover and I'm not particularly good at precision aiming.

The 1887s have the best range of any of the shotguns, that's why they're the best. But that range is still pathetic compared to any other gun, n a straight up fight any non shotgun armed player will destroy me before I can get into effective range. I also have to make sure I hit with my first shots (one usually doesn't kill) as with the slow rate of fire I've little chance of getting a second chance.

I work damn hard sneaking, or dodging close enough to people and making sure I get that first shot on torso, my reward is to destroy them in a glorious explosion of concentrated fire-power to their fragile body. It seems like a balanced trade to me.

Also as a shotgunner I'm running around a lot, this means I'm more exposed and will usually get a higher deathcount than the more cautious players.

What annoys me is anyone who uses cowardly tactics to preserve their K/D ratio. It's a game, it's supposed to be fun, you're not really going to die if you run around like a lunatic.

Active Reloads is NOT a noob-ish tactic, mainly as everyone can do it, but only skilled people do it well, and it doesn't provide as much a benefit as you'd think.

That may be true.
Still if the move has no start up time and leaves them open for about 2 seconds after its completion, its kinda hard to counter.
Besides, who said i lost?

I'm not sure I would categorize this as being a n00b. Let's say, using Street Fighter as an example, I'm playing Ryu and I throw a fireball. You try to jump the fireball only to mistime the jump and land on it. I see it works and throw another, you land on that one too. Is it really n00bish for me to throw a third or fourth and so on if you keep getting hit by them? That would be boring gameplay, certainly, but it's hardly n00bish to do what works.
True, but to me its still requires some skill to get the timing down to preform a juggle like that.

While on the other hand it requires no skill whatsoever to hold the c-stick foreword and rapidly press X.

I wasn't talking about an actual juggle, just repeat full screen fireballs, but either way the same principle holds true regardless of what sort of move we're talking about. If I can pin you in a corner and win the match by doing nothing but hitting forward and Fierce repeatedly with no special timing while you can't figure a way out, why shouldn't I? That wouldn't necessarily be a lack of skill on my part, it would be a lack of skill on yours hence I'm not the one that would be a n00b in that situation.
