Well...it's just a physical distinction between stages of human life.

Mentally? I'm still the same entity I was at 17, but with a whole host of new experiences and such. Just, now, there's an arbitrary number of years lived that means I'm eligible for certain things I wasn't before, both perks and potential punishments.

It's fucking weird.

The depressing thing to me is that I, all of us, regardless of age, are...to use an overused phrase...just ghosts in shells.

We each get to watch our shell deteriorate, while our ghost undergoes comparatively limited change. We're fuckin' Asuka, desperately working the controls that eventually, no matter how much we scream and flail in our 'cockpits', will cease to function.

...So until our consciousness/pilot is devoured, let's just do our best to enjoy the ride.

We're 'adults.' Play games, read books, party, hang out with friends, discuss the world, discuss people, discuss ideas, whinge, *****, praise, dote, watch shows, watch plays, whatever it is that you personally enjoy. You've got a limited amount of time.

Worrying about the perception of other ghosts isn't going to make your shell any less or more bearable/enjoyable to inhabit.

Objectively, being an adult probably doesn't suck since you do get some good things and some bad things.

However, how much you are able to enjoy adulthood can depend on your situation at the time. For example, right now I have a pile of student debt that I need to pay off, I still can't find a job, and I'm living with my parents as a result. So that means I'm incredibly stressed, a little depressed, and just not enjoying adulthood right now. Compare that to someone who might have a stable job, isn't living from paycheck to paycheck, and has a place of their own... Well, they're probably enjoying adulthood quite a bit.

Sorry for the mini-rant.

I think most of the ?early adult blues? comes from the fact that most if not all entertainment nowadays seems to be aimed at tweens. And with the tech boom people are starting to feel old and out of touch while they are still in their twenties.

On another note, I waited most of my life to be able to watch 18 rated films in a cinema and I become an adult just as the dam PG13 rating takes over the movie industry? (Shakes fist) dam kids!

What I miss most about childhood is the innocence I had. Believing that there really was a black and white good vs evil and that heroes would always prevail in the face of adversity. I miss the days when the world seemed a lot less complex and heavy.

EDIT: Incidentally, I find it ironic that you spend most of you childhood wishing you were and adult and once you become and adult you wish you could be a kid again and both for the same reason.

I got up an hour ago. It's 11 PM and I got up an hour ago.

I ate ice cream for dinner the other day. Bcause I felt like it.

I don't have to go on family vacations anymore. I can skip family gatherings unless I actually want to go to them. (And I don't.) I don't have to learn meningless things and pretend there's a point to it. I can appreciate great books that I wasn't mature enough for in the past. Do I read hentai or not? That's my choice. And only mine.

Nobody tells me to play with some complete stranger just because we're the same age. Nobody tells me I need to live with my abusive dad. Nobody tells me to worship a God who didn't want to stop the Holocaust.

Being an adult is the best thing ever.
This! (change abusive dad by bipolar mom)
