Devil May Cry
Isn't DMC 2 regarded as somewhat bad (to put it mildly)? Haven't played it but that's the impression I've been getting from others.
Whether or not people think it's a good or bad game is irrelevant to whether or not it's consistent with the Devil May Cry series. As bad of a game as people say it is, it is almost unmistakably a Devil May Cry game, by way of gameplay and aesthetics.

That said, I enjoy Devil May Cry 2. It's not my favorite in the series, but I don't personally find it as bad as people say it is. I like the more streamlined controls that DMC2 had(being able to dodge without having to lock on, for example), but the animations need work. The way they did it, it was almost like they were trying to make Dante look like a squishy human.

The animations themselves just look...weak, is the only word I can come up with. If you watch Dante's fast and powerful thrust when he performs Stinger in DMC, and then watch his limp stab when he performs Stinger in DMC2, you'll see what I mean. Other than his weak animations, I don't really have any problems with DMC2.

But the thread is about being consistent in quality, not in...well, "being of the same franchise".

I like to think my post counts because I think it's just as good as the rest of the series. People are free to differ, but that's my opinion.

Lets see...
Pokemon
Legend of Zelda
Metal Gear Solid
Dead Rising
Super Mario Bros
Super Smash Bros
Assassin's Creed, they did add some of stupid things in Revelations, but the main game was still pretty good.
GTA
Gears of War
Old Resident Evil games
Possibly new Resident Evil games (I like 4 and Revelations a lot, and 5 wasn't bad in my opinion, just not as good as 4 or Revelations)
Dynasty Warriors

Gears of War, God of War, Battlefield, Max Payne, GTA, those come to mind as all being consistently pretty good.

Grand theft auto...pretty much every other franchise i can think of has killed itself with too much milking.

PS: some people seem to have difficulty counting to 3 or reading...not sure which...

the total war series! if you like those sort of games.

Medievel: total war (never played it)
Shogun: total war (I LOVED THIS GAME A A KID!)
Rome: total war (probably the best in the series)
Medieval II: Total War (also a great game)
Empire: Total War (good game but i prefer melee to ranged...)
Napoleon: Total War (same)
Total War: Shogun 2 (awesome game again!)

(Spartan: total warrior (a complete crap game that doesn't deserve to be in this list...)

But for me, DA:O= Most boring, souless, lifeless game ever.
Holy shit do I have some bad games you need to try :|

Really? You mean stuff like Superman 64, Big Rigs, Action 52 or even ET?

Because those, while also horrible, were horrible AND hilarious for just how horrible they were! As in, I can laugh my ass of with those games BECAUSE of how bad they are, at least for 1 minute or so.

Dragon age didnt even manage to even amuse me in the slighest with its horribleness... it was just DULL and PATHETIC excuse of a videogame. UNIVERSAL EPIC FAILURE IN EVERY SINGLE ASPECT.

I will NEVER forget what BIOWARE did to me with Dragon Age: Origins!

I meant things like lost planet, darkest of days, Fracture, Green lantern, Thor, etc...
So miserably boring.

Dragon Age at least had great characters and an interesting world (even if that world was only interesting to hear about and not play in or explore).

My other go to genres are books and music so I was able to overlook the gameplay flaws.

Dragon Age 2 was worse IMO 'cause it took out the interesting characters and barely amped up the gameplay quality (seriously, the gameplay was never going to be awesome in a DA game if it stayed similar to DA:O. Why bother making only minor changes?)

EDIT: Also some of the sonic games

Wait what, lost planet? I heard that game is pretty awesome...

Then again, I also heard Dragon Age was pretty awesome until the day I actually tried it myself...

Anyway, no, I dont care about characters/history in videogames at all. At least, not at all without GOOD gameplay. Dragon Age EPIC failed there. I went it expecting it to be something like Skyrim or fable or hell, even fallout but NOOOO, I got.. Dragon Age´d. :(

EDIT: Sonic games ehm? I prefer sonic 06 ten times before Dragon age because sonic 06 is so freaking retardly broken its hilarious (AND it had a very good soundtrack, as well). Again, dragon age wasnt even THAT...

But, I think I am going off rails with the thread. Maybe it will be better if we stop here...

Maybe it was a little unfair to lump that one in with the others, but I found it boring as hell :/

How about we bring some JRPGs into the mix here.

Final Fantasy - VI-X are all typically regarded as fairly high quality by fans of the series, I personally really enjoyed XII, and then XIII is where it fell flat for me, but plenty of other people enjoyed it.

Tales of [Blank] - It's one of the top three most popular RPG franchises in Japan, so it must be doing something right. Personally, I've only actually played Symphonia and the Abyss, but both are excellent examples of unique Action-RPGs.

Kingdom Hearts - You can ***** about how many different platforms the franchise has spanned in its short time since the first game was developed ten years, but with the exception of Coded, every single game has either had great fun gameplay, a really strong story, or both.

.hack//G.U. - It has a very unique premise - You're playing a character who's playing a character within an MMO world. I'm always intrigued by the 'game within a game' story, because it can open up so many different things. It's one reason I loved Digimon World 3 so much. .hack//G.U. comes complete with a rather interesting and fun combat system as well, and spans over three titles, as well as being a successor to the four original .hack games that play out in a very similar manner.
