Whether or not people think it's a good or bad game is irrelevant to whether or not it's consistent with the Devil May Cry series. As bad of a game as people say it is, it is almost unmistakably a Devil May Cry game, by way of gameplay and aesthetics.DoPo said:Isn't DMC 2 regarded as somewhat bad (to put it mildly)? That said, I enjoy Devil May Cry 2. It's not my favorite in the series, but I don't personally find it as bad as people say it is. I like the more streamlined controls that DMC2 had(being able to dodge without having to lock on, for example), but the animations need work. The way they did it, it was almost like they were trying to make Dante look like a squishy human.
The animations themselves just look...weak, is the only word I can come up with. If you watch Dante's fast and powerful thrust when he performs Stinger in DMC, and then watch his limp stab when he performs Stinger in DMC2, you'll see what I mean. Other than his weak animations, I don't really have any problems with DMC2.
