I was really opposed to some shows out there like Firefly and Arrested Development because of all of the fans I knew of those shows were really obnoxious and would talk about those shows incessantly

then I actually watched them... and had to admit they were actually pretty amazing
Darn you!

My idea, you stole it!

I was going to say Firefly as I just got the DVDs and have been watching it at work the past couple of nights.....

<..>

But keep that between you and me. *wink*

I used to hate Enter Shikari without having heard them. I heard them and they are now my favorite band, above even Within Temptation.

I used to be a massive Playstation fanboy and was dieing to get a PS3. Then I bought a 360 cause I couldn't afford a PS3, and the PS fanboy in me shut the hell up after I realised theres hardly any difference in the two.

I used to despise Facebook. Then I started university and its now my 2nd most visted site after here.

The amount of people who beat down on Facebook (and other social networking sites) is unreal. Sure they can be incredibly inane at times, but their actually very useful resources, and a must have at uni really.

I know, I honestly don't know what I'd do all evening if it didn't exist. Although they should shut it down during the essay and exam deadline period.

But then how would we procrastinate? What would we blame when we inevitably fail? Facebook fills these needs!

I used to be a fan of anime, but I slowly came to dislike it became more shallow and idiotic over time and I developed more mature tastes (Not a stab at anime fans).
Just as a matter of clarification did you suddenly hate series you previously liked or do you just mean most new anime sucks? Because that I totally agree with. Older anime just had better characters, voices, stories and animation.
They used to have decent looking characters. Now it is all fucking stick thin 14 year olds with magic powers and the "artists" are fucking colourblind.

Anyway I am ashamed to admit that I used to like Jack Black. Now I honestly just hope he falls feet first into a industrial wood chipper.
A fan of older anime should definitely look to the Patlabor movies and Irresponsible Captain Tylor, if you haven't already.

That's some standout work, right there. Just recently I watched the first Patlabor movie and the animation, while definitely of an older style, is still extremely good.

No.

The only "conversion" I've been through is from christianity to atheism, and I dont even call that "conversion" as much as it is depicted as "common sense" to me.
I was going to type something, but then I read this guy's post... uh...yeah... What he said. Same here.

Yes, a couple of friends converted me from Haagen Daz to Ben & Jerry's and I've never looked back.

I used to be into punk-rock bands like Blink 182 and Greenday when i was in my early teens. Then when i was in Germany i decided to buy a CD for my freinds back home, whom i knew liked metal music. I chose an Iron Maiden album (Because it looked very metally) and brought that. When i was home i decided, out of curisoity, to listen to it. It sounded brilliant, and dispelled my pre-conceptions of metal music away. I made myself a copy and gave the CD to my freinds. By the time i was 16 i had moved on from punk-rock.

I also used to think anime was really childish when i was a young teenager, relating it to pokemon and digimon, i could not understand why a few of my freinds watched it. Gradually, over time i matured and tolerated it, and when i started to tolerate it i realised it was not a childish as i thought it was. I never really got into anime, but i now respect it, and will happily watch it with my friends.

Easily the best post I've seen in the past week, though you'll probably get suspended for it.

Anyway, I've never been 'converted' because I was never a fucking idiot.

That is to say, I'm right 98% of the time, or I can see the strengths and weaknesses of a subject, object, course of action, video game system, musical group, etc. without being a total fucking prick.

That is to say, it is impossible to convert me because I was always open to the idea of it being better.

ie: "Anime sucks" to me meant "All the anime I've seen sucks, I'd be happy if there's new better shit I've never heard of, which is likely, because I don't keep up with the anime scene, and yada yada yada."

ie: "Rap sucks" in my mind meant "All the rap I've heard thus far in my life sucks, I'd be happy if there's better shit I've never heard of, which is likely, because I don't... etc."

Translation: I actually specifically go through things I am supposed to hate and go out looking, digging, 'researching' for lack of a better term, aspects of it to like. Even when I start out like a total idiot, I end up finding out that while I don't like most rap, I fucking love hip-hop. While I don't like most anime, there's the occasional show that I think is freakin' great. While I tend to not enjoy (console name here), some gem comes along that for some reason is only released on that console.

ie: You can't convert me, you can just expose me to something better - I was always open to the idea of it being good.

I used to hate Communism before I actually learned what it really was and had no knowledge other than what I was told in history/social studies.

...now I'm joining the Party.

I used to like Michael Jackson... Until I found out he was a nonce. I used to love nu-metal, and I still do (for all those "real" metalheads who'll flame me for that, I also listen to Death metal and I think Cannibal Corpse are okayish but mostly overrated pussies, I listen to REAL Death). My Mum raised me a witch and my Dad an atheist, but then I discovered Satanism and the SITH and started my own belief system based on all four, does that count as conversion?

P.S join my cult! It's awesome! No praying or anything, just good old love, hate, greed, (vague) charity, nature and industry!

use to like Carlos Mencia as a comedian and then found out that he's one of the biggest joke thief in the profession. Plus he's not even mexican, he's half german and his real name is Ned Holness. Basicly one big poser that exploits racism and steals other peoples acts to padd his own paper thin routine.
