god, fucking finally they make one without the damn joker
What are you talking about? There are nine Batman movies and Joker is only in three.
Compare it to some other long runners like Superman (Lex [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superman_(1978_film)], Lex & Zod [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superman_II], some nerd [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superman_III], Lex & Nuclear Man [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superman_IV:_The_Quest_for_Peace], Lex [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superman_Returns], Zod [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man_of_Steel_(film)], Lex [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_v_Superman:_Dawn_of_Justice]) or X-Men (Magneto [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Men_(film)], Magneto & Stryker [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X2_(film)], Magneto [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Men:_The_Last_Stand], Stryker [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Men_Origins:_Wolverine], Magneto & Shaw [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Men:_First_Class], Magneto [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Men:_Days_of_Future_Past], Apocalypse [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Men:_Apocalypse]) and the Joker is looking positively under-utilised.

The fact that no-one's yet been able to play him more than once is probably a factor.
Except for Mark Hamill, he's been playing the part for almost 25 years.

Also, I think that the presence of the cartoons, the shows, and the games have something to do with it as well. Personally, I'm starting to grow a little tired of Deathstroke after Teen Titans, Arrow, and Arkham Origins (And, while we're at it, let's throw Injustice under the bus as well). Heck, even in a series based 40 years in the future, after the guy is dead, the Joker still finds a way to come back [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0233298/].

So, being tired about repeat performances for some of these characters is not that surprising. Actually, it's a little sad since we have over 70 years of comics to reference from (For both Bats and Supes), and we keep coming back to Joker, Penguin, Catwoman, Two-Face, The Riddler, and Bane (And, for Supes, Lex and Zod). I'm almost tempted to throw in Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, and Scarecrow into the mix, but they haven't really received much attention until the last 20 years.

As far As X-Men, aside from Magneto (And his posse) and the government, have there really been any other defining characters in the comic's 50 years that are labelled as threats (And, before anyone posts anything, I mean genuine X-Men characters. Not villains crossing over from other Marvel properties)?

We were pretty obviously talking live-action films, there. If we're counting animated films, the roster of villains gets much, much wider.

In fact, I just thought of the perfect choice - Batman's greatest nemesis [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnaHXjJAHrA].

Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix, Juggernaut...there's also been some more obscure ones like Arcade, Cassandra Nova and Quentin Quire. The X-Men were also the title where a lot of alien antagonists were introduced during the 70s, like the Shi'ar and the Brood. Those villains migrated into general threats later on.

Phoenix and Juggernaut both appeared in X-Men: Last Stand, but it was difficult to call them the main villains when one was a henchguy and the other was mentally ill and being directed by Magneto. Magneto was still the man with the plan. Even if the plan was daft and very poorly executed.

You're right, though, in that the X-Men writers coming up with new storylines mostly just flip a coin with "Magneto" on one side and "Sentinels" on the other.

Edit: I just remembered a couple others; Nimrod and Onslaught, both relatively low-profile but ludicrously overpowered. Onslaught was technically a fusion of Xavier and Magneto - it's complicated - but he should count. I wouldn't call either one "defining," though.

Him or Kite Man, the most deadly kite-related person in history!

Oh and Sinister (if I was Marvel, I'd drop the 'Mr.' part) I feel like he's a pretty interesting X-men villain.

You guys are all complaining about ninja on ninja dumbed down fight scenes. Let us not forget that Deathstroke's claim to fame is that he uses 90% of his brainpower instead of the paltry 10% that the rest of us rubes are walking around with. So, he CAN be a criminal mastermind. He just isn't. He's more of the "What's the point? Just give me lots of money and I'll be happy." kind of mercenary.

I agree with lots of folks. I think of him as a Titan's villain. I think Clayface is a much better choice. But, as I say this, I am flashing back to Sandman in Spiderman 3 and hoping for a better portrayal than this.

I think the guy playing him is too young. Deathstroke is older than Batman, not younger.

Wasn't David Carridine killed by a "deathstroke"?
Just to be clear, I had to remember my log in from 5 years ago (last time I was active on here) just to say I laughed so goddamn hard.

Well played.
