Only posting good ones for now.

I do feel the need to mention the Bulletstorm menu theme as it has such an adventurous feel to it that it even seems misplaced

I also really liked the Wolfenstein TNO theme as it fitted the game so well, its hard and strong but gentle and somber at the same time.


The Rainbow Six Raven Shield theme, its so... heroic I guess, it does make the "fight for peace" perspective work.


Then the Hitman games also have good ones


A bad one I can think of is the original theme for Dragons Dogma, I guess its an allright song but for an RPG like that it doesnt fit at all.

So is it just soft, foreshadowing, piano-based modern classical music you don't like... or Japanese RPG games and culture in general?

My favourites:

The Red Alert 1 and 2 title themes would often make me hang around setting up games longer because it was a cool intro to the rest of the background music! (Which I have as OST's. Frank Klepacki for the win!)


As music goes, this is beautiful. It is actually linked to a video that plays, and shows basically an interim between the first game and the sequel, and just wow... It's fantastic! Stick with it too the end... so many moods flowing through! The kids are a running theme in the game too... something tells me all the devs had just had babies or something, so the sound of kids fits well! This game has a great soundtrack too by the way.


This one, just because when I hear it I know I am just about to play my favourite game! Or, you know, my iPod is on shuffle.

LEAST FAVOURITE:

Counts because I say so. Not only is this the title theme, but it is also the only music in the whole game. That's it. That's all you get. 1 bar. Repeatedly. Whilst you play a really slow boring Pac Man clone. Well... That was Net Yaroze for you.​

Hopefully the OP will answer this, but I'm going to make a guess and say it's probably the latter.

I really love Dark Souls 2 main menu theme. It kind of perfectly encapsulates the underlying theme of the game. It's subtle yet it sets the mood straight away.



The choice for worst track goes to Dragon's Dogma as well. That annoying j-pop is so horrendous I wouldn't be surprised they use it as a means for torture in Guantanamo Bay. In the context of the game it makes no sense either.

Well my personal favourite didn't take me more than a second to decide on.


It's powerful, it's got a beat, it sci-fi, it's mysterious...it's Timesplitters's transition into a game more comparable to the other popular FPS games of the time.

I remember this...actually, this was so oddly memorable that I name my Accelgors in Pokemon "Coneman" after the incredible vague mishmash of shapes, himself. Net Yaroze had some pretty solid games, though. Like Psychon and Blitter Boy. And that weird poorly-translated RPG, Terra Incognita.

While we're here, here's the charming, cheesy as hell theme of the forest area in that game.

Seconded (finally, some one is still talking about The Last Story), Anarky Reigns does the same thing, before you press start, you here a bass line then the beat and that keeps playing till you hit the button and you here a sax, I wished the soundtrack started the exact same way.

A nice theme that makes you feel like living on a lovely island on a warm day...which is how the game starts off coincidentally
