I tried this and the tutorial sucks and its amazingly slow paced with a difficulty curve that is stupidly steep.
I don't see how the tute sucks, it teaches you a pair of moves. The idea is that you build your skills up in single player against Uke and then head for Multiplayer. As for it being "slow paced", did you try online?

Iji: a very old-school style platformer made in gamemaker, with an interesting story and very good gameplay:

About 3 hours long, and definately worth playing (in fact I may go and play it again now...)

Enemy Territory is one of the best shooters I have ever played. Balanced, tactical, AWESOME and looks good even on a crappy PC or a laptop.

Amorphous+ is okay for 2-3 hours. A lot of funny achievements.

Quake Live is a Quake 3 in your browser. If they only added Google Chrome...

Toribash is okay, if you like such things. It's slow-paced, but watching your enemy fly off in 20 different directions after a successful attack makes it all worth it.

Also, multiplayer is nice.

Well maybe we got different versions cause the one I had told me how to move joints (barely) then pushed me into a game that I had to wait absolutely ages for.

You know what the point of the game is, don't you? Inflict damage via moving joints

You then have a play around with it, see what stuff does etc.

If you want a hint on it try this:

relax all (c)
contract both knees
space x 2
Hold all (c)
space x 3
extend both knees
Contract both Pecs
space x 1
Lower both shoulders
Grabby hands (click them)
space x 1 (this should make you grab his head)
raise shoulders
Space x 4
lower shoulders
Contract hips
and press P

You should do at least a decap, possibly take his shoulders out as well

I picked up Trackmania Nations Forever on Steam and I've been enjoying it quite a bit. Very simplistic racer but pretty good for freeware.

As for freeware, well, it didn't use to be freeware but it's sure free now and I try to flog it off onto as many people as I can. Anyway, I present Albion:
