You gotta admit, they way they did it is pretty damn clever.

I don't get all the guys going on about Halo having great AI overall.
While they're meant to be stupid, Grunts waddle up, shoot a bit, grenade a bit, and die.
Drones come in a big pack, fly around a bit, and die.
Brutes walk up, burst fire when full-auto would be much better and throw grenades, then die.
Jackals stand still, shoot in bursts, then die.
Vehicles do nothing but guard areas.
Hunters are like vehicles, but in Reach they seem a lot smarter as another guy in the thread stated, (but they're nowhere near that degree). Shame that they're less challenging than a couple special ops Grunts on Heroic if you move around a lot and know what they're gunna do next though.
The enemies just don't do anything interesting or even dangerous aside from a couple very easily predictable attacks and movements, though there are a couple exceptions in the latest installment, something Reach's campaign did right I guess.
In Reach, the Elites and Skirmishers are the
only enemies who try to avoid a buckshot sandwich probably in the entire series. They tend to take cover and often flank you, (especially Skirmishers) but they don't act like they're in groups and don't take advantage of their environment/cover/squad sizes/etc and their movements very quickly become extremely predictable, if you just don't shoot them soon as they arrive.
Though to be fair, that could be moreso to do with the design and layout of the game itself.
Whatever, Halo's AI just isn't
that good.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R's human AI is really good, as someone else stated. The mutant dog's also have a really interesting pack mentality too.
I actually tend to do most stuff at night because there's less humans around. Even if there are a shitload more mutants, (Bloodsuckers...) least I don't have to worry about some exoskeleton kill team outfitted with some of best stuff in the game hunting me down. As much.
