Chrono Trigger, by Yasunori Mitsuda and Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy 1-12)

Runner up Final Fantasy VII

Makes me a little sad that square games keep coming out with bad music when they used to produce the best game music.

For me, it'd be a tie between Red Dead Redemption and Alan Wake.

Followed by Mass Effect, ME 2, Persona 4, and Brutal Legend. Oh, and Dead Rising 2. Good stuff.

Oh man Brutal Legend was epic. The scene where the girl jumps into the dark water while Mr. Crowley is playing was most excellent.

I have a lot of game soundtracks I love, but Persona 3 is in the number one spot by far. Usually the soundtracks to JRPGs annoy me, but I can rock out to the P3 soundtrack all day. Nothing beats the rocking beat of Funk Rock High. (I know that's not what it's called, but that's what I call it)

Final Fantasy Tactics, NHL 99, and Red Alert 2. 3 very odd, yet very good choices.

But I prefer licensed soundtracks, like the Rock Band and Guitar Hero games or Brutal Legend.

Using Nier doesn't even seem fair xD..

In general most square enix games are decent contenders, Dissidia has a boss ass soundtrack as well, mostly because almost all of it is remixed/updated classic final fantasy songs, but it has a few originals recorded for the game itself that are fan frickin tastic.
