A tie with Drakengard and Kingdom Hearts .

Drakengard: pure style for the sheer bat shit craziness of the battles.

Kingdom Hearts: all substance with the class story, ingenious idea of marrying Disney with Square characters, level design, and really neat battles. And Billy Zane.

This is a challenge. I like creating threads that cause mass controversy and anger among the commuinity >:D make people think :p.

My choice is Chrono Cross. Played Trigger but I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE MUSIC IN CRONO CROSS. I have never played a game were I'd actualy sit there just to listen to the ingame music.

POST AWAY
I know what you're saying about the music. I got the exact same feeling in the games Bionic Commando (2009) and Saints Row 2. Ah yes, Saints Row 2... Just sliding round the corners in your sports car while listening to all the awesome songs.

Uh... I'm sorry; what was the question? Oh! What does Square Enix do right? Uhm... Can't really help you there. I never really got into Final Fantasy or Kingdom of Hearts and Chrono Cross I still haven't played yet (though that actually does seem like a lot of fun).
I do plan on buying The World Ends With You, since it looks pretty good, but since I haven't played it yet, I can't say anything about that either.
So yeah, I guess over all Square Enix development projects don't interest me that much. That's not to say that I don't like some of the games which they've published, but that's about it.

Final Fantasy 7 easily, FF6 and Chrono Trigger are close though.

Also just noticed as I wait for the ability to post this, why the hell is there now adverts in the captchas that have a skip button that doesn't work?

ARE YOU READY TO FEEL THE CAPS LOCK RAGE!?!?!
(ahem) That was perhaps unprofessional. But caps locking the title seems a little tacky.

OP: My favorite Square Enix game is Just Cause 2. Why? Just cause! Heh, I made a funny.
But, seriously, it's really fun.

Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2

Final Fantasy XIII (yeah haters hate away) But I loved this game so much

Then Probably Final Fantasy VII tied with Final Fantasy IX

I just love the Final Fantasy series.

I got some very dirty looks from friends when I said Chrono Cross a game they'd never heard of because it wasn't released in my country - sort it out!!!! (I got it ported don't ask how) was 10x better than any Final Fantasy game.
And I'm going to stick by that, it's beautiful beyond measure.

I...I think I love you. My passionate, crusader-like devotion to that particular underrated masterpiece is nothing new to the regulars around here.

Sure, the massive number of characters made it a little lacking in character development, but beyond that the combat was unique and intuitive, the story was engaging, the hand drawn backgrounds were gorgeous, and (like you said) it has to have one of the top 5 best soundtracks of any game in existence.

Chrono Cross all the way!

Final Fantasy V carries special weight in my mind. Can't speak for Chrono Trigger (or Chrono Cross, since I haven't played that one). Never really bothered to finish it.

FF III American. Yes indeed.

FF9 comes in a close second. Too bad the games exponentially worse with each release after that...
