Mount and Blade, it was only 5 bucks on steam and its a game basically no one has heard of, or will hear of, but god damn is it fun. I can't wait until the multi-player expansion, that shit is gonna be bananas.
Was that a special that they had? It's $30 on Steam right now. That'd be a hell of a deal.
75% off, steam weekend sale.

If you watch out, you can get some sweet deals. Bioshock: $5. S.T.A.L.K.E.R: $5. M&B: $7.50. Far Cry 2: $15. And the list goes on...
Yeah, I took advantage of the Ubisoft week and a lot of the indy game specials. But damn, I'm sorry I missed the mount and blade special.

Psychonauts for $29.99, it hadn't even been out for all that long. That's a great game.

The game I've played most that I've actually bought would be either Half-Life or Soldier of Fortune 2. Doom was a gift, so it's out of the running. I still remember buying Soldier of Fortune 2, being 16, and being paranoid that they were going to card me for it, since that was when the whole "carding because video games are evil" phase was just starting. Paid full price, still play it today, at least once a week. Half-Life, I actually paid a bit over the current price at the time, it was a year after it came out, but only one place in town had it, so I paid 10 bucks more. Still don't regret it, I can't count how many hours I've spent playing it, Opposing Force, the myriad of mods, and making my own levels. Oh, and I suppose Doom 64 for N64, I got it for 6 dollars used, amazing value for the money, probably the best doom console port ever made.

I played a friend's copy of X-Com: UFO Defense on the PS1 (!) and copied a hacked version and played it on my 486/33, but it kept crashing.

By that time, it wasn't in stores anymore, so I kept an eye out in bargain bins. Eventually I found that Microprose was selling X-Com, X-Com 2: Terror from the Deep, Master of Magic, and Master of Orion all bundled together in the "Take Over the Universe" package.

The box was the bloody size of an old-school boardgame, and featured an aquatic claw rising from the depths to grasp the displayed CDs in a cellophane window. I somehow stuffed in my backpack and motorcycled home without incident. I ripped open this huge box to find 4 CDs and thin-thin installation and copy protection manual. It was the worst case of overpackaging I've ever seen, but for the $30 it cost me, I played the heck out of those games (except Terror, too much like the original).

Still got DOSBox, and fire up MOO or MOM when I'm feeling autocratic and tyrannical.

GoldenEye 007. Was $100 new back when Canada was lead by Jean Chrétien and the country had massive deficits but I probably played it fourhold the hours.

Easily Dawn of War: Dark Crusade. Beat the game about 20 times and still not tired of it.

I'm tempted to say Timesplitters: Future Perfect as part of a 2 for $60 deal, when the game was new (and as such, regular retail priced it at $100.)

But, I realised that with it I got Pariah, so it's not such a deal after all.

Today I got F.E.A.R. Platinum Edition and Banjo-Kazooie for 70, which is good considering F.E.A.R. was 70 on its own.

Oh, and remember that I'm in New Zealand, so we get a ridiculous markup on prices compared to you Yanks out there.

Final Fantasy X.

I haven't played it in years, I may never play it again, and yes, I winced at the "laughing" scene, but it's still probably the best purchase I ever made. Here's why: it was 2002, I hadn't played a game in like six or seven years, and even then, I only picked up a controller once in a blue moon. Then I joined the Air Force and, after a few months, found myself in Wichita Falls with absolutely fucking nothing to do. So I went to the BX and, on a whim, bought a PS2 and a marked-down copy of FFX, played it, and liked it enough to go back and buy a few other FF games. The next game I got after those was Ico, and by that point, I was hooked.

In short, FFX was the game that really got me into gaming.
