You go out and buy a CD, you pop it in and this is the first thing you hear. Many times it can make or break your feelings for the CD or the CD itself.

Mine:
Blind by Korn. It was the first song on their first CD and it blew me away. IMO it's the best way to open up.

Anyone else got a favorite intro?

The intro to Seventh Wonders "mercy Falls". The first song/intro depicts a car crash that will be the focus of the entire cd

EDIT: The Song is called A new beginning

Indestructable by Disturbed.

The opening track, Indestructable, opens with something similar to One (Metallica) so it's awesome even before the song starts. Buy that album.

They also did a song called Amnesia i believe, i think i even bought the single of that haha. It is a shame that they're a bunch of Neo Fascists...

OT: The start of the Mars Volta's 'Deloused in the Comatorium' is bitching.

I love small intros, small around 1 min teases that introduces the first song. Awesome examples:

Helloween Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt2: Song Invitation. Introduces one of my favorite songs ever Eagle Fly Free.
Rhapsody - Epicus Furor
Rhapsody - Ira Tenax
Rhapsody - Lux Triumphans

Rhapsody (now Rhapsody of Fire) is big on intros...I love it :>

Oh god... THEY DO!!
is that sarcasm saying they have more than one?! or is that agreement
Shocked agreement
Chumbawamba has quite a few good songs. I really like the album 'The Boy Bands Have Won', and songs like 'On Ebay', and especially 'Salt Fare North Sea'. Their best album so far IMO is 'Un'.

And when Thatcher finally croaks I'll get their remembrance album about her :D

The first three Coheed & Cambria albums pretty much had the same intro. My favourite will always be "The Ring In Return", it's gorgeous, and I love the words at the end.

There are many great album intros - some are dramatic "mood-builders," some are epic Wagnerian bits, some don't even have music, but rather "tell a story" of sorts through narrations or recorded effects (the best of these are usually for concept albums). But my personal favorite album intro is one that sets the tone for the whole production perfectly by just exploding right out of the gate:

Damnit, I hate when they "disable embedding by request" [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6_zsJ8KPP0]

I'm not really a fan of pure intro songs. I prefer "real" opening songs that follow the theme of the album and instantly set a mood. The band that does that best is Insomnium.

All of these are intro songs that introduce the melancholy of the albums.

If the band focuses more on aggression than melancholy, the first song should start with a crushing riff to instantly get your attention.

Indeed they are, and Guardiani Del Destino is still the most epic song ever. As for intros I really can't go past Ira Divina, because it has Christopher Lee (guy who plays Saruman, for those who don't know) going the voiceover.
