Alright, so I've been thinking about trying out an MMO. Any will do, as long as it's good. There are a few limitations though:
1.) It has to be Mac OS X 10.5 compatible. I'm not gonna buy a gaming computer when my MacBook works perfectly and I play most of my games on my Xbox.
2.) The community has to be good. I don't want to constantly be reminded that I'm a noob when I've already established that fact.
3.) This one isn't really necessary, but I'd like to have someone be able to guide me through at least the first few levels. Playing the World of Warcraft 10-day trial was a pain trying to wrap my mind around all these alien concepts. No one was willing to explain anything to me.
EDIT: 4.) I'd like a free trial before I start feeding the game my money.
Any suggestions?

I've never played one. My friend used to be a WoW junkie (one of the millions), but you've said that you don't like it.
I never said that; it was my first time playing an MMO, so I was understandably confused.

You can actually play Champions Online using your Xbox, the game is still new so it has standard new MMO problems but it is apparently awesome.

has it come out for Xbox yet? I thought they were still working out the whole subscription thing.

I was under the impression that they released simultaneously but I could be wrong; check for yourself. http://champions-online.com/

I quite like AQWorlds. It's free unless you decide to upgrade, which while beneficial, is entirely optional.

It functions entirely on flash player on a browser. There are no downloads needed.

The community is reasonable, as long as you avoid some of the worse conversations that take place in yulgar (generally they are ok, but there are some really bad ones).

The major problem is probably the graphics, which are often off putting to a lot of players. They appear somewhat childish.

Still, it is updated weekly, it has a friendly programming team, and it can be free for as long as you need it to be.

They were going to release simultaneously, but they didn't. They don't even have a release date for Xbox.

Making an account right now. It can't hurt if it's free, right?

Not at all. It still has some really old accounts from when it was first created, so if you decide you dislike it and then change your mind, you can always go back to it.

Dungeon Fighter Online is a good one. Ok graphics, fun gameplay, and a nice dungeon system.

Cysero is generally reliable. Avoid the moglin safe servers, as you cant talk on them.

My personal preferences are Sapphira and Nytheria. Nytheria is a bit unstable though.

You wont be able to access them all due to the member restrictions on some of them.

It doesn't really matter a great deal though. Just pick whichever you want.

Guild Wars, definitely. Amazing community, helpful people (more than in any other MMO I've played, though I hear LoTRO0's community kicks ass as well), story-driven campaign, gameplay based on your SKILL, and not on the amount of hours you've logged into the game, amazing PvP (the best I've played) and I'm quite sure it's Mac-friendly.

I recommend City of Heroes/Villains. Although at first glance the character creation looks daunting with so many choices of powers within an individual class, most of the power sets have a basic summary that sums them up pretty well. The combat is simple, yet rewarding. The economy is easy to learn, difficult to master. Armor and weapons are replaced by collectible enhancements equip-able to individual powers. All-in-all, CoH/V is a good, easy-to-pick-up-hard-to-master type of game. Although I wasn't really exposed to the community at large due to a greatly limited (socially and economically) 14-day trial, I managed to join a couple of groups for some dungeons, and seeing how a widely varied team works together is far more satisfying than a simple dungeon crawl in WoW.

WoW is a good starter MMO. Reasonable graphics requirements, good content, large and stable community, Respectible gamemasters, solid groundrules, etc. That said, if you're willing to wait about a year to see how they go, either Star Trek or Star Wars: The Old Republic might have the same attributes if you prefer Science Fiction over fantasy.

Eventually, you will either stick with one of those, or you will do as I did and join EVE Online, the Black Tar Heroin of MMO's.

DDO is a good choice. It's totally free, and has some of the best MMO mechanics I've seen in a while. Pretty damn fun.

Play WoW

Server: Blackdragon Flight

Faction: Horde

Play: Roughly 5:00 PST-9:00 PST

Join Guild: Hates Pancakes

Add Friends: Berblondika, Aalna, Schely

I'll help you through it all. I'm fairly knowledgeable about the game, and I've played every class at least to level 30; so I know the basics of each. Hates Pancakes is a really friendly guild as well, and between that community and me, we'll get you up and running ASAP.

As well as one of the most retard-saturated communities in cyberspace.

EVE Online
eveonline.com [Here]

Mac Compatible: CHECK
Community: Check. Absolutely amazing how much people will help out others. There are assholes who will screw you over, but I've never met as generous people as my corpies
Someone to Guide You: Check. A much-revamped tutorial (that I have personally tested and found to be EXCELLENT), an easily available Epic Arc right after the tutorial mission set, which will net you a very nice amount of cash to play with (as well as teach you a LOT)
Free Trial: CHECK. 14 days without any limitations that will worry you. The things you cannot do are the things you have no reason to do unless you are trying to game the system. Besides, if you try to get into Battlecruisers in two weeks, you're doing it wrong.
Well the trial isn't completely unlimited. Certain skills like "industrial ships" cannot be learned on trial accounts (and ultimately is what pushed me into that addiction).
