Over my years of movie watching, i've really come to appreciate the few fight scenes that feel more believable and gritty. I feel that the more sanitized or glorified fight scenes are, the more we get used to them. Fight scenes that disturb or make you feel unsettled are the ones i like most. So anyway, i was just wondering if anybody knew of any scenes of this sort which i might not have seen or ones you enjoyed.

Here are some of my favourites which i definately recommend, especially the Deadwood ones ;). Warning, they contain violence and possible spoilers.

Deadwood - Dan vs The Captain[link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Blki-DISUis[/link]

Deadwood - Bullock vs Al [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y07h4mR2zFE[/link]

Deadwood - Bullock beats up Otis Russel [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66Q3xS8ZVws&feature=related[/link]

Deadwood - Bullock vs Indian [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMNpDoNjIiA&feature=related[/link]

Irreversible - Fire Extinguisher [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwSc-uPsxfI&feature=PlayList&p=9039D9E4C5DA4AFC&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=68[/link]

Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrrGNEDZQFA[/link]

Oldboy - Corridor Fight [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wha0brbb_44[/link]

Eastern Promises - Bathouse Fight [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlcMzfmGJQg&feature=PlayList&p=AEE8FF87FCF6BAC1&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=20[/link]

Ooh. Urrm. Not sure about realistic, but I thought pretty much all of Battle Royale was comically brutally brilliant ^_^

Though in terms of disturbing I watched a two-part drama on telly once where a girl was raped and beaten by some Trafficking drug baron, that was pretty intense, didn't like that at all. Can't remember was it was called... had John Simm in it.

Goodfellas, where Ray Liotta, using a revolver butt, beats the face in of the guy who roughed up his girlfriend.
Only thing in cinema that has ever made me cringe.

Thanks, i'll have to check out the one with John Simms when i find it. Battle Royale was an awesome movie :), though it did push the boundaries of realism a bit far at times, but still a cool movie. Especially with
the guy answering his phone after getting shot
.

Ah, i forgot about that one. Martin Scorsese has a real eye for gritty violence. This scene from the Departed is pretty good too [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iz7k_tIdEY[/link]

I forgot about Goodfellas! Christ that film made me squirm. It wasn't even gory it was just disturbing.

There was another one... damn what was it... Ah! American History X has some brutal scenes in it. Amazing movie but very difficult to watch.

the fight scenes in Green Street Hooligans are pretty nitty gritty.

The bathroom fight in The Warriors.
Great scene thanks, though i've got to admit i'm not a huge fan of the sound effect when someone get's hit.

American History X was a good one thanks. Although the curb stomp seems almost comical now with it's popularity, the first time i saw it it was quite shocking.

The fights in the Rocky movies tend to be pretty brutal, and I assume they're somewhat realistic.
Not if you've ever watched boxing. Still, they are pretty dern cool.
I'd recommend Pan's Labyrinth because, while only some of the violence is actual fighting, all of it is brutal. The Tony Ja movies are good choices, too; less realistic, but it's evil, evil Muay Thai.

saving private ryan. technically war, but isn't war fighting?
Good one also. Here's the link for it [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuxpSSJBwW0[/link]. Also, the ending from Heavenly creatures [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuxpSSJBwW0[/link], though technically it's not really a fight scene ;).
