Best romantic sub plots in gaming

Nobody's mentioned Starkiller and Juno in Force Unleashed?

It wasn't massively developed, it didn't get a very romantic ending, but it worked well within the context of the game, and was unobtrusive enough to not interfere with the gameplay.

The others are more visible in-game, but I don't think they're all that much better (except Alistair and the dog, of course. That WAS awesome)

Mass Effect romances.
And the relationship in The Darkness. I really liked that relationship, and was quite upset when what happened happened.

I loved the darkness, fantastic relationship, the end was heart rending.

I think all the romantic subplots in Dragon Age were really well done, though the Zevran romance was by far my favorite. I also liked Shepard and Ash in Mass Effect. Going back a wee bit, I thought Jaheira's romance from Baldur's Gate 2 was well done. Anyone who knows me knows I adore that game. I only wish there were more romance options for female characters, because no way in hell was I romancing Anomen.

Locke and Celes from FF6, because it didn't fucking shove it in your face like other games and wasn't so embarrassingly stupid. It retained it's subtlety throughout the whole story and packed some actual emotional weight behind it that didn't feel tacked on to me unlike a game like Mass Effect where the romance was a total joke and was painful to sit through.

And I know I'll catch flak for it, but I LOVED Carth and the light-sided PC in KotOR. I even loved it more than all of the above romances. It was so very bittersweet and full of doubt. I'm a sucker for imperfection in characters. And also, Bastila + Canderous is my OTP. Don't judge me.

No flak here :3 I'm rather overfond of Carth, and him and Revan awkwardly flailing at each other makes me smile.

For the most part the romances in ME felt kind of tacked on, but I really loved the awkward/sweet pay-off between Shepard and Garrus. It probably helps that I don't think they're totally in love or anything, they're just totally awesome bros-with-benefits, so.

Yay! So many people bash on Carth, it's nice to see another who likes him and his disgusting orange jacket. He was impossible for me not to love. Raphael Sbarge's awesome silky voice helped, too. :3
