This Machine isn't DLC, you just need to complete a NCR quest correctly for it
I think that's an unmarked quest. I know it involves Contreras and Boyd at McCarren. It is a good rifle.

Honest Hearts also has The Survivalist's Rifle, which I forgot to mention earlier. I love it because of the story of the man who owned it. It feels like you're carrying on a noble tradition when you use it. So between A Light Shining In The Darkness, The Survivalist's Rifle, and Joshua Graham's armor, it's my favorite DLC for loot. Weapons are better when there's a story to them.

I agree. I first did Honest Hearts when I was like level 25, so I was well past the point where a .45 Pistol was a good idea, but after hearing Graham talk, I used them for a long time (non-unique ones, too). Honestly, Honest Hearts was probably my favorite DLC for story too (though Lonesome Road was also great).

Why has no one mentioned the Ballistic Fist yet? Seriously, it's a power gauntlet with TWIN SHOTGUN BARRELS attached to it. Hell, you can even throw EXPLODING SAND in your enemies' faces. What's not to love?

Before I even picked up this game I swore I'd make a character that used this weapon.

Also in energy weapons, the Q-35 Matter Modulator. You can pick it up at the Repconn HQ, which becomes easier if your character is very lucky or very stupid. The thing has high damage, relatively low energy usage, a high crit rate, and absurd crit damage. It's an all-around reliable gun.
I danced through the rest of the game with that gun. It's definitely the best if you utilize your skill points right.

I always find myself returning to the hunting rifle. Ammunition and spare parts are plentiful, it's accurate and it has enough punch for most enemies. Gauss gun as backup against Deathclaws and power armoured enemies.

No one has said the holorifle yet?

I love that little peice of Elijah engineering!

It's a long range, pump-action sniper rifle that shoots holograms!
YES!!! Well... that is once you get all of the proper mods, which are kind of a ***** to find, if I remember correctly.

Surprised no one else mentioned that. Maybe because people didn't really like Dead Money, which is a damn shame.

OT: I was always a fan of a unique hunting shotgun that I got from the quest giver from The Pit. I forgot the name. It's been a while since I played New Vegas. I remember tearing through enemies with that, though. Cazadors? Not a problem. Feral ghouls? Headshot! Legion? ... Still a bit of a challenge, but I got other weapons to deal with them.

I also had a soft spot for the Mysterious Magnum, only for the music that played every time I pulled it out and holstered it. Surprisingly enough, it never got old. Huh. :p

anything i can attach a silencer to but i eventually go for a silenced sniper rifle and a shotgun. my character is always a stealthy sniper (even inside of buildings) and my shotgun is my fallback weapon where i spray and pray

No one has said Archimedes yet? It one shots everything in the game, just kill everything in the area with it, wait 24 hours for it to reload, then continue. If you are indoors then the hunting rifle is a solid ranged tool. For melee go for the ballistic fist, I beat the final boss using it alone.
This! I love the 'Euclid-C finder' rangefinder you get for it too, it's basically retro laser-gun toy. Only problem is you have to finish Come Fly With Me to be able to use it, but honestly for me it never gets old.

No, you have to finish "That Lucky Old Sun" to be able to use it.

"Come Fly With Me" is not related to Euclid's C-Finder in any way.

The Medicine Stick. There is nothing more broken than a gun that does more damage to heavily armored targets with hollow point bullets than armor piercing rounds. Add in that it has high damage, and you have an amazing gun. Add in that it's a lever-action and I just melt into a puddle.

The Bozar, definitely. Roughly 20 DAM, 300 DPS with a sniper scope? Yes please. Although you have to buy the thing for 20k (adjusted for Barter) nowadays. NCR troopers have gotten wise to the thieving ways of wastelanders in recent years.

I'm surprised that with all the revolver love on this thread no one mentions the Ranger Sequoia. Especially since you can get near infinite ammo and repair parts, so long as they have Old World Blues and a character that's at least level 40. The gun is massive and stylish and does the most damage per shot of any pistol.

Other weapons I like (and aren't already mentioned as of my writing) include:

-The Plasma Defender: basically a Plasma Pistol with better dps, VATS, Iron sights, and damage. It's my main side arm in most playthroughs and is even better with the Gun Runners' Arsenal, or GRA as I will now call it.

-Thump-Thump: a great all around grenade rifle. Though, as with all of those, I'd actually recommend hip-firing. Especially if you're like me and use it to hunt Cazadores.

-Cleansing Flame and Sprtel-Wood 9700: Both part of the GRA and both massive improvements on already great weapons. Would recommend the Heavyweight perk if you plan on carrying both.

-Protonic Inversal axe and Saturnite Fist Super Heated: Both Part of Old World Blues and great melee and unarmed weapons.

-Laser RCW: IT'S A LASER TOMMYGUN WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED?!?

I'm pretty fond of the Annabelle and Chainsaw combo. Fire a missile at them when they're far away, if they've still got health left when they get close use the chainsaw to remedy that.

The anti-material rifle is so effective that it almost feels like cheating.

It even pays for it self in no time if you load up on explosive rounds and piss off one of the main factions. Simply throw a couple rounds in the direction of a hunting party and loot the corpses. Coupled with a high repair skill, I had so much money after a few hours that I didn't know what to do with it all.

We got this far into a Fallout NV thread and someone just now mentions the M1 Garand? I loved the hell out of that gun.

Sure there was the alien pistol with it's insane crits and anti-material rifle, even the lazer chain guns / Mercy (Auto-Grenade Launcher guarded by a Legendary Deathclaw at that) Well This Machine Kills Commies is the best.

If you have GRA installed, the Medicine Stick. If you're playing a cowboy type character, accept no substitutes.

You don't have to complete it a certain way, Boyd or Careras (something like that) will give it to you depending on who's side you take.

There's a non-unique version in GRA
