Cool, I figure it's about time for some change. I'm sure Bethesda will keep full mod support as well, I mean half their fan base is modders.

As positive as they're making that sound, I'm not convinced this is good news. They did much the same type of "upgrade" from Morrowind to Oblivion and in the process cut out plenty of weapon types and, though I'm not sure, it seems that Oblivion had far less enemy types. If they're making a whole new engine, I fear what else they'll cut out. This also means I have even less chance of getting a PC version, since their new graphics will no doubt require a computer somewhere in the deity level of power. Ah, I'm still excited for it, and I'm still gonna get it, I'm just mighty suspicious of this new engine they're propping up.
If it runs on current-gen consoles (which it will), there's no need to worry.
Well of course it will run on consoles, but the problem with that is that you can't get any mods for it. You can only do that with the PC version, unless they somehow change that, which I seriously doubt.

This makes me a happy camper. Now I hope it isn't buggy. I mean, they will have 5 years to work on the damn thing when it comes out.

Would have made more sense to just use unreal or some other engine.

They aren't exactly known for making things that'll stay up of their own accord.

Out of interest, did you play Oblivion when it first came out, or later on?
Either later on or very unreasonable expectations :).

I meant that if consoles can run it, a gaming PC can run it without a problem, probably even in much higher details. A modern gaming PC is much more powerful than any console.

I've never really cared about graphics, but thte character animations and general dialouge always made oblivion seem old and stale, even when it was almost new.

I wouldn't think Bethesda would skimp on their mission and sidequest quality (something I always thought TES did better than any other RPG) and with new graphics and animations the only thing i'm worried about is voice acting, it was leaps and bounds better in FO3 than in Oblivion, but Bethesda might pull that "cast of a dozen voice actors" crap again.

Ah now, that's going a bit far. The rubbishy character models don't invalidate the great freeform gameplay.

OT: Hell yes! I just hope they keep the modding capability and in-game console.

Ah well, there you go. When it first came out, which was in 2006, the graphics looked pretty special.

I was hoping for this.

I kinda want skyrim to have a grimier feel to it. With alot of dust and moss. I know alot of games now days come in dystopia brown and all that but giving a TES game a darker feel visually may help it feel like a new experience, especially considering the fact that we have visited skyrim before.

I predict that this game shall be awesome.
As if you didn't already know that from the fact that IT"S FUCKING ELDER SCROLLS 5!

But seriously, did they use the Gamebryo engine for Morrowind too?

BY THE NINE! Finally, srsly!
Hopefully Skyrim can clime TES out of the uncanny valley!
Elder Scrolls never hit the Uncanny Valley. Trust me, Uncanny Valley human faces are much more realistic than Oblivion.

Hmm, well this is all just speculation and wishful thinking but it's probably a sure bet that it will have a construction set. I just hope that they changed the way that the game loads textures and mods. For example, say you get a mod that changes an npc to have different hair, then you have another mod that changes the npc's base attributes. The last mod on the load order takes precedence and also causes the engine to have 2 conflicting references which lead to instability. This is poor game design! Also the stupid way the texture overrides required archive invalidation and the fact that it read everything in the game directory even though it was never called on causing further instability... grr! I'm going to stop here on the intricacies of how mods work... I don't want to get into a long tirade about how silly it is that everything needed to be tied into quests.

These were all problems that shouldn't have existed, which while caused by the engine, were down to shear incompetence in engine design. So yes I hope they fixed those little niggles, and this time had some people looking at the overall scheme of how a modifiable game should work.

As for the other complaints about animations and things, well a few good modders can fix those things so I'm not worried. :)

You can get mods for consols, you just need an Xport360. A little more difficult, but you can mod it.
