Well, time to lock and load.

So I am the only one wondering how the hell you get in a situation where you're blowing up Brotherhood Vertibirds?
Because the Brotherhood of Steel is not a nice organization, Fallout 3 notwithstanding.
True, but if they're in Boston wouldn't they be an offshoot of the faction in D.C.? Or is the Brotherhood even more ridiculously fractured than I knew?

I'm pretty hyped for this game, and I don't really normally get too hyped.
My Fallout 4 exclusive LootCrate came today as well, and that's after buying the Fallout Anthology with the Mini-Nuke and I'm getting the Pip-Boy edition. I have spent a ridiculous amount of money on this game, but I kind of don't care.
I was one of those people who didn't think Fallout 4 was even gonna happen, so I'm so thrilled that it is.

Also, yay, trailer shows lady protagonist for a bit!
<-< Really?
Why? I've seen a few people that have said this and I can't understand why someone would think Bethesda wouldn't get another Fallout out there eventually. I mean, they already made like 7 Fallout games, why stop when they're still doing well?

Side note: I'm pretty jealous of you for getting all that cool stuff. 0-0

OT: Pretty good trailer. :) I like how they gave the Husband and Wife each their fair share of the spotlight.
Looking forward to the 10th!
I'll play New Vegas to calm me down until then.

The gameplay still has holes in it that I can see, and I really don't want to be railroaded through a "Cinematic" campaign when I used to be able to have long conversations in the dialog trees. Voice Acting the main character is still something that I disagree with for Fallout 4...

On the other hand, this trailer did have one positive for me, so I put it in the spoiler below for people who want a pure experience.

Oohhhh So Synths and Institute ARE actually going to be a big part of the story? Ok... Bethesda, you have my attention now, I was secretly hoping that you would do more with these concepts. Just please don't make The Institute into The Enclave 2.0... Ah fuck it, Bethesda you are the laziest writers this side of Ubisoft, of course you are just going to rehash the Enclave story tropes again...

The glimpse of what looked like some kind of Android in the trailer was an interesting aesthetic, but it doesn't really resemble the Android that we saw in Fallout 3.

CAPTCHA: Waiting list . No thanks Captcha, this game is still in Beta till they release the GOTY edition.
I too will miss the dialogue trees. That said, I totally forgot about the android dude in FO3; I'm glad you reminded me as it made a lot of the trailer make more sense.

OT: I have a policy of waiting for goty editions, but damn if fallout 4 isn't tempting. It's kind of weird to see a place that's o populated in a fallout game. I hope it still feels like fallout.

I wish the escapist would stop blocking youtube from going to fullscreen: I hate having to go to youtube everytime they post something only to then find out I need to login to view it (which I never do as I don't like google tracking my video preferences). Tired of being stuck with such tiny viewing windows.

And...oh oh OH! The Institute! This is interesting! (I have to mirror concerns about it being just a rehash of the Enclave though)
Well, The Institute is a closed off group of smarty fartys that have really advanced tech (possibly better than the Enclave) and really like to make robots that can think/feel just like organic humans to be used as slaves (because they're actually pretty stupid I guess ;p).

Not exactly the Enclave, but they do have some similarities. Though, they don't seem to be interested in taking over the world like the Enclave. Just making robot slaves with free will. Then again, there's probably more to them than that.

What I'm hoping to find out is if we'll see Dr. Li again. At the end of FO3 she was on her way to the Commonwealth to try and join the Institute.

As for the Brotherhood. They could have just had that put in because it looks cool. I mean, they showed off blowing up Megaton in F03 trailers, so just cause they're killing them in the trailers it doesn't necessarily mean their the "bad people".
Could be though. Some Brotherhood bors and sisters are real A-holes. ;p

yeah, it'd be nice to see some continuity beyond just finding a book that mentions someone from another game. Also, I'm curious what happened to her as well. She could do a lot to aid humanity's recover with her knowledge of the geck and water purification.

OT: there's a dude in the trailer that says "in the end, we will be saving mankind from its worst enemy: itself" and I really hope that's a bad guy talking, because that's usually the sort of talk people start bandying about when a group is about to be oppressed or put on the wrong end of a genocide.

It's bad enough that I kill as many humans as I do in fallout games, I really don't want to be part of rebuilding the old ways of oppression and murder.

Well that's the problem when the games are so spaced out in their timeline. Harder to have return characters. The Elder Scrolls have it a bit easier because they have "regular people" that can live for 1,000 years, and a bunch of immortal ones that can survive until the next game.

Fallout has some though. Marcus and Harold to name a couple that show up in a few games. Probably won't see them this time though as they were both pretty busy/stuck inside a tree.

As for Fallout 4, I just hope they give us about as many options with what to do at the end as what we could do in New Vegas.

Yeah, I don't really know why I thought it was not going to happen. My friend had her heart set on it being announced, and she's a bigger Fallout fan than me so I guess I was just being a downer to try to prepare her in case they didn't announce it.
Besides, it had been so long since the last one, I thought they were just sitting on it for a bit longer.

I'm sacrificing all my money on Fallout stuff in order to pay for the sin of doubting.
(Or maybe I'm just overcompensating for the fact I was broke when Skyrim came out and couldn't buy the Collectors Edition).

Yeah, I really liked the tree guy, even more so after I found out his backstory from a wiki.

While the journey seems to be more the focus of bethesda storylines than the ending destination, I do hope for more than we had in Skyrim. The civil war storyline disappointed me to no end, especially since it basically took a back seat to one dragon fight. But I've bitched about that in other threads.

I really hope the game has some of the same depth we got in the new vegas expansions: those had some of the best storytelling I've ever seen in a game.

*Few* Glad you mentioned within the first few sentences that it was spoiler heavy, I nearly started watching it.
I've tried to avoid finding out as much as I could, only watching the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. videos. Hell I've even stopped watching some of the more interesting videos put out by youtubers I subscribe to.

Yeah. The civil war bit was a fair bit disappointing.
Blood Money was my favorite of the FO:NV DLC (though I may be a bit bias because it was the only part of the game that didn't bug out, lag, or crash on me while playing).

Hope 4's DLCs are of that quality too.

Eh.. most likely not. Expect the quality to be skyrim level instead of NV since NV was made by black isle if i remember correctly, and those guys have much better writers then bethesda

Wasn't it Obsidian that worked on New Vegas? Or is Black Isle what they used to be called?

Also, yeah. I agree with that on everything except for the writing of the player character.
Fallout 3's personal stuff for the player character was a lot better than New Vegas. Other than that though, I'd say the stories were better in New Vegas.
Not that I didn't like the ones in 3.

Ahyes.. it was obsidian.

Allways mix those two up. But yeah obsidian also has alot of experience when it comes to RPGs and better writers. The reason the character was such a blank slate in NV i think was because obsidian wanted to return the aspect of the player deciding who and what their character was, just like in fallout 1 and 2. That leaves the character rather empty in the context of the game world but also doesnt conflict with any pre set characterisitcs.

For example in fallout 4 we know you will be either a father or mother in a loving relationship... kinda hard to imagine someone like that joining arms with organisations like the slave traders or caesars legion (not that they will play any role in fallout 4 anyways but they make a good example) Whats worse is that your character will be a "pre apocalypse civilized" person... who has absolutely zero experience on how live really works in the wasteland.

This is why i presonaly dislike it when game developers slap these things onto "our" characters, either you let me freely create my character or you give me a fully fleshed out character that you created beforehand.. this half and half aproach really doesnt work for me.

don't go on the steam forums for fallout 4 a asshole(the nicest world for him) spoiled the ending for me by putting the ending as his forum title so everyone at the looking forums at would see it.

So I'm assuming that Bethesda is either trying to do a Rossum's Universal Robots or a Blade Runner type plot.
I also highly doubt that their story/writing team is smart and/or good enough to pull either of those off properly.

Finally, for the first trailer they've ever released, they used the female character and voice for some shots.

Well it's about time.
If it weren't for those I would've thought that you can only play as male characters. Atleast, I thought that was happening for this game.

Still. I'm personally not really hyped. Will buy it 2 years down the line when the game's most broken stuff is patched.
Did the same with Skyrim and that was the best descision I took.
