Bethesda Unveils Skyrim Collector's Edition

Why couldn't they do another edition, a limited edition lets say, that has the game, the map and the making of documentary but no statue and art book, leave them for the real die-hard and well-off fans?
oooh the irony, todd howard said recently that games are becoming too expensive and then this is his (the company's) sollution. a pretty cool statue, a huge artbook and a making of video of the game: for 90 euro/dollar!!!!! man for that money alone i bought CE with more content. (looking at you AC Brotherhood.)
Having worked in games retail, every special edition of every game is supposedly released in "extremely limited quantities". Do you know what that means? It means fucking man-high STACKS of this thing will be sitting in stockrooms across the world, in shops who's staff must lie through their teeth about the rarity to every customer they speak to, on pain of sacking.
If you live in any kind of city at all, you will be able to find at least one store that still has several "rare" collector's editions a month after the release date.

Not really digging this new trend for absurdly priced Collector's Editions. First we had Bioware's $150 CE for Star Wars: Old Republic, now this. All of this coupled with the fact that physical copies are nowhere near what they used to be, and basically we're left with a sense that these companies have a "squeeze blood from a stone" attitude.
Prices this steep are not that uncommon, but they're usually reserved for ultra-editions with absurd collector pieces. This package is better than most, but I wouldn't have guessed $150 (200 in AUS, just GTFO with that).

Thats a lot of money for a dumb statue. I dont collect games anyway, i buy, play and then sell them when i get bored with them.
I'd like to know how much the useless hunk of plastic (the figure) actually contributes to the price. =P Coffee table books are expensive anyway, and special feature DVDs are nice (although not particularly hard to produce and FREE in other games), but...
Seriously, a plastic figurine? Come on... ;-P They're just being cheeky and trying to screw the fans for as much money as they think they can get away with. It's not like the conmmunity has made any secret of its excitement for Skyrim.

Yeah I am getting both Collectors Edition, exept I was hoping that there would be more, well, there SHOULD be more, $200 for this, I dont think it is worth it, why not a coin, amulet, cards and other stuff?Haseo21 said:

the coffee table book would be interesting to have, but i dont really see the need to have a statue. especially one made out of pvc. maybe if it was made out of higher quality product then that would justify the price, but pvc? i can make that for about 20 dollars
Oh God I don't know if I should upgrade my pre order to this. I have the standard edition paid off in full already, and I have about 20 some odd dollars of GS credit plus a couple games to sell. Either that goes towards this behemoth or to a Diablo 3 or Battlefield 3 pre order. D:
EDIT: I saw what the ME3 CE has..and it has way more crap for 20 dollars more. It would be awesome if they made the dragon a higher grade material at least. This way the price tag is more justified. Or throw in DLC and a soundtrack.

Well I pulled the numbers from http://3ds.nintendolife.com/news/2011/07/european_3ds_price_to_drop_by_a_third_says_nintendo so I assume they're right. It says a 1/3rd price cut which puts it right in that mark.Serris said:yeah, i'm really bad at spotting trolls
i'm a bit curious about the new price though. are you sure will they be the same price? i've only seen the announcement for america. i'm kind of considering buying one after the price reduction, but only if the price reduction indeed puts the price on 169. if they convert the 80 dollars to 55 euros, i vow to not buy it no matter what ><
