As happy as I am with what it means for the industry, I was not as impressed with Skyrim as a lot of other players. I got through around 30 hours of random stuff and then started to get bored.

On the other hand, I decided to play through ME 1-2 to get the perfect playthrough ready for 3. I realized that despite its flaws and shortcomings i was much more invested in the game because the world felt more compelling even though it was obviously much less alive. In fact, I really cant think of another game world with as much depth of character and drama as the ME world. In fact, this is one game series that i seriously dont want to end. I would love to have them continue developing the culture of the world almost like a start trek or star wars. Either way i hope this story doesnt end.

Ideally I'd like them to finish on a high and resist the temptation to milk the series to death.

Failing that, something on a smaller scale with a much narrower focus. If they try and come up with another world/galaxy/universe threatening menace for another interstellar badass to overcome then it's going to come across as awfully contrived.

Also, inb4 "first contact war prequel" and "ME3 will rule/suck!"

I recall someone from Bioware stating that there is more to do with the Mass Effect universe.
It might take a little adjusting but if they handled it with proper care I would love a spin off game set in the same universe.

It'd be nice to have something set maybe 100 or so years after the events of Mass Effect 3, that way there can be new technology/powers introduced and Commander Shepard will be definitely dead (Humans in the ME universe can live for about 150 years according to the codex from the first game, If my memory is correct). Also I'd like to see if they could show off some of the consequences from Shepards choices in this hypothetical game as well, did the Universe stay united after the Reaper threat, thanks to a benevolent Paragon Shepard's charisma and diplomatic ability? Or did the alliance quickly crash after the threat was dealt with due to the rash, violent actions of a loose cannon Renegade Shepard?

EDIT: Also just to spite Zhukov, Mass Effect 3 will rule, and a game set during the first contact war would be pretty interesting

I am sure they will make some terrible MMO out of it. That is usually where all franchises go to die.

I disagree, Sonic was doing a perfectly good job of killing itself without an MMO

Haha. No, no. This is where Sonic goes to die and I had the misfortune of watching it happen, I dare you to watch the whole thing. It is like 45 minutes long with all the parts.

........The fuck was that?

I watched about 2 minutes of that video before stopping and im confused as hell, I thought Sonic was about a blue hedgehog and his assorted woodland critter friends trying to save innocent animals from Dr. Robotnik (or Eggman, cant remember which name is more accepted)

My friend's brother made a 45 minute live action Sonic movie. Sonic is in...sometimes he wears a blue shirt and CALLS himself Sonic. It only gets even more insane from there when you see how it goes. It is just...absurd.
So next time someone tells you "This is the worst thing related to Sonic ever!" Now you can trump them with that link!

You know what, instead of showing them that, im just going to work very hard on forgetting that I watched it in the first place.
You won't be able to. It is going to be there, forever, gnawing at the back of your mind. On the upside, you can now blame anything bad that happens in your life from now onward, on viewing it. You get a free ride!

Isn't that what they did with Dragon Age 2 and everyone hated it?

I think I read somewhere that the universe of Mass Effect would still be explored, but ME3 would be the end of Commander Shepard's story. Maybe the clouds of war will be thickening fifty years down the line or something like that.

Why waste such a huge universe(no pun intended)? There is so much lore to explore with it. It's such a rich universe, it would be a shame to waste it on just 3 games.

After ME3, EA shall probably comission side stories that are based on characters that didnt make the team from game to game. Like how Garrus basically became Space-Batman.

Or worse Bioware suddenly decided its not going to finish when the trilogy does.

There's still plenty to be done in the ME universe. We still haven't seen the creation of the reapers, the First Contact War, not to mention what happens after the defeat of the Reapers.

I'd really like to see a historical compilation kind of game, where we get to play through certain pivotal scenes in the ME backstory, like the Rachni Wars, the Krogan Rebellions, or the Geth War.

Remember to keep your Mass Effect 3 save game so your Commander Shepard can be imported into Masswinter Nights!

Happy im not the only one to realize that this universe is far to big and deep to be left without some nuanced explanations. For me i would be very interested in following through the cultures of the Asari, Quarian or Geth. I know it might be asking waaay to much but a Dragonage origins type story where you actually pick your race and go off on an adventure would be awesome and extremely epic.

I agree, the same thing happened to me in Skyrim as Oblivion. I enjoy trying it at first, then play around with a few mods, then get bored since the world is so vast, yet so empty in depth. *shrugs*

As to Mass effect ending...I wouldn't count on it, they HAVE said that it's the end of Shepard's story with the third game, BUT they also say it's a good idea to keep your saved games from mass effect 3...which means what you've done in that game will resonate in the next, even if you're not Shepard. :)

My personal theory? The Reapers won't be wiped out. They'll be broken, and they won't be a massive threat anymore, but some of them will escape. This will prompt the Council to lift their ban on opening new mass relays in the interest of hunting them down and finishing them permanently. At least one of the next games will be an almost Star Trek-esque exploration of new systems, only with a more military focus. A game about past wars or something set in the unstable political clime of the post-war galaxy wouldn't be out of the question.

Or, with their work on Command and Conquer, they could be gearing up for a RTS. It would at least be an interesting concept.
