Earlier today I was playing MGO and happened to be in a room with some very vocal people, so much so I do believe that everyone was participating in the general discussion. The topics ranged from Tiger Woods to where we lived and what were our names and genders. Out of the blue someone asked what everyone's sexual orientation was. Me and three others answered heterosexual, one answered homosexual, one declined, and the other 10 said bisexual. This lit the cloth of the proverbial Molotov Cocktail that was tossed at us for the next few minutes as the one who answered homosexual got a bit angry with these "bisexual" teenagers.

It raised the question in my mind as to whether claiming to be bisexual has become somewhat of a fashion statement among many teenagers. Yes, I know there are some people here and elsewhere (I am friends with a few) who are actually bisexual and there are some who are beginning to discover they have a neutral preference for both genders, but I have noticed in the past few years that the number of people claiming to be bisexual has increased dramatically in the reality and on the Internet, and most of whom are between the times of beginning puberty or are young adults.

I have somewhat mixed feelings about this topic. Sure it may be a confusing time for many teenagers who are trying to put the puzzle pieces together and discover their sexual preference, but to use the term "bisexual" in the same vein as "gamer" or "nerd", is a bit insulting to those who actually are bisexual, in my opinion at least.

What are your thoughts on the matter?

I can't understand why it would seem cool to claim to be bisexual when you aren't. Its probably just to get attention. There are also differing views on the subject based on if the person is male or female. Male=odd Female=hot. I don't agree with this but it seems to be the majority opinion.

I hate when people fake a sexual orientation just for attention.
I can say the names of about 3 girls or boys from my middle school that did this.

But I'm fine with any that ARE bisexual/homosexual

Maybe a lot of people are sort of bi or bi and nowadays they feel more okay with coming out with it?

Or, it's just become a trend.

Yeah, but it'll eventually pass up.
Like women being inferior.
Or black people being inferior as well.
And basically things like that, that people will eventually compromise over.

Perhaps today's world, with its Internets, open-mindedness, and people under forty, is simply much prudish and discriminatory of such matters.

Hetero.

1. How does that add to the discussion at all?

2. Were the all caps and no punctuation necessary?

I'm wondering if I should report you for that.

I'd point out the obvious truth, but then some twit will rage on and on at me. So if you don't like my post that will entail a "85% of them are full of shit atleast" view, then DON'T FREAKEN READ IT.

Soooo just incase some Fake Bi, that doesn't like people claiming he/she is faking it don't click on the spoilers below.
Yes I'd say atleast 85% (Based off of people I've met) that claim to be bi is them trying to act open to change, or accepting to Homosexuals and thus look cool for it. The irony kicks in, is that they still use homophobic insults. From which is considered OK. Oh well. It's a passing fad, and I can garentee none of the pretending Bi's actually have intercourse with their gender. They wouldn't take it that far. But for the genuinely Bi, I have no qualms with you, live the life the way you want. I just hate people who FAKE that stuff.

Mmmm Ragey rants.

Gotta love 'em.

Just ignore me folks venting off at a pet peeve.

Hetero, not like it matters though.

I've kissed men, but I'm not especially attracted to them. With the exception of those fey, feminine types. Which kind of goes to show that I'm more attracted to women. I would consider myself mostly heterosexual.

It has become a fashion statement, I'm afraid. I believe that most people are bisexual to an extent. These loud proclamations are fairly recent, though. And never very honest. I know gay people, and they loathe the phenomenon.

If anything, they're Bicurious, just testing and seeing what they like. If they really are and not just saying to to be "cool".

I got nothing against homosexual and bisexual people. I say let them do whatever makes them happy. I however, a heterosexual male, can never see myself feeling anything sexual for another man. I think men are disgusting, I don't even see how women find men attractive, but luckily they do ;)

I have honestly never looked at another man and had even a slight sexual feeling for him. I know you may think I'm in denial but I swear I'm not. It's just not in my nature to feel anything sexual for men, they're gross.

OT: I really do hate it when people pretend their Bisexual to get attention or fit in somewhere.

Yeah but those things aren't gone they're just hidden better. You'd be surprised by how many people still believe in those things.

I would say I have seen this trend. I see it a lot in colleges with the LUG girls. Mostly I have seen it as a ploy to get someone's attention. I have seen girls say they were bi because they get tons of attention from guys when they kiss (or do other things) with another woman. I have seen guys say they were Bi, because strangely enough, some women just want to go after the thing they think they can't have.

Some people are really open and are Bi. Others pick a side of the fence within a few years.

EDIT: LUG = Lesbian Until Graduation.
