Creating terrible, terrible music does not necessarily make you a bad person. I really hate how people pray fr others, though. It's kind of condescending, though the intention is n doubt noble.
Essentially, If I were you and did not believe in god, then simply ignore God from the scenario. This isn't a "I'm praying for your souls". It's basically a declaration saying, I'm thinking about you, and sending my best wishes that good fortune comes your way, and that you may get through your misfortune easier.
In this context, "Keep them in your prayers." is essentially the same as "Keep them in your thoughts." There's really nothing condescending about it, all it means is that someone that believes in God is hopeful that hard times for you end.
