Today, I began playing Donkey Kong 64 for the first time in over a decade. I never beat it in my childhood because I couldn't figure out how to get past the Donkey Kong arcade segment and needed that N coin to open the door that would have eventually led to the final boss fight. Anyway, I went back earlier today and while it's mostly not terrible in terms of challenge (I'm actually having to fight the control stick more than anything) there's one mini-game that I haven't beaten yet and which will likely be the end of me.
As Tiny Kong, you need to race a Scarab Beetle down a slide. While going down this slide you need to collect 50 coins. If you touch the Scarab Beetle on the way down, you lose 3 coins. The slide itself has multiple twists and turns, with multiple twists/turns being unguarded (ie: you can fall to your not-death-just-loser state of being). All of these factors make for an extremely difficult, extremely frustrating, MINI-GAME. I'm going to go back in and try again in the next hour or two...that Banana will be mine dammit...I hate the way that fucking Scarab laughs when it wins too...
