System Shock 2 was made by Irrational Games. After they merged with publisher 2K games, they became 2K Boston, and made Bioshock. So yes, they did have the right to rip off the game entirely, but I don't believe in any of that "spiritual successor" crap. If you're not calling the game System Shock 3, then it implies that they were trying something new.canadamus_prime said:One of my co-workers told me that Bioshock was made by the same people who did System Shock 2, so I guess they can rip off themselves all they want.HardRockSamurai said:Bioshock ripped off System Shock 2 to the point where the game started bleeding. It was still a good game, but you'd be surprised at the number of people who call it "original."
No, my friend, no, that's way too broad of a statement; there are way too many modern warfare shooters that have been made in the past, like the original Soldier of Fortune. Besides, Soldier of Fortune has that that whole-gore-niche-thing.Altio said:Anyone ever play Soldier of Fortune: Payback? Biggest COD 4 rip-off I've ever seen
Haha wow that is a big rip-offGrayl said:I don't remember the game, but it was a COMPLETE rip-off of Warcraft 3. It had undead and elves and it was a peon style RTS. Honestly, if I can find the name I'll post it here, but I played the demo for it and it was pretty much the same as WC3 but with updated graphics.
EDIT: Armies of Exigo was it's name. If you read the Eurogamer review they compare it to WC3 quite a lot. It did have some differences, but look at this [http://img.gamespot.com/gamespot/images/2004/reviews/919920_20041214_screen003.jpg] screenshot; so similar it's painful to play.
Because Killzone is shit. Don't bother arguing otherwise, you have zero chance of changing my opinion, I don't have a PS3 so there's no point me buying it, the concept is unoriginal, the characters bland and stereotypical, it's target audience is suburban midland American 14-year-old boys with parentally-diagnosed ADHD (ie - being a shithead disorder) who listen to Korn, Disturbed and Slipknot and claim to be "metalheads".Altio said:Why you gotta be hating on Killzone?Streetfighter said:I'd say either Saints row or any Halo-killer on PS3, like Haze or Killzone. It.
Is.
Shit.
There's no discussion, no debate, no back-and-forth flame war that will arise out of this.
It's shit.
So are Haze and Saints row, for the same reasons.
From what I recall, their former publisher still owns the rights to the System Shock IP and they could not legally call Bioshock "System Shock III."System Shock 2 was made by Irrational Games. Surprise, surprise; they weren't.

He can't be an Xbox fanboy. He insulted Saint's Row, and that was Xbox 360 exclusive. Nope, I think we are dealing with a genuine bigot.Scrub47 said:Spot the Xbox fanboi?Streetfighter said:Because Killzone is shit. Stop trying to sound intelligent and go play Halo Wars or something.
It may be a clone, but goddamned it's fun! I've played both of them and what I play depends on my mood. If I'm in the mood for unrealistic mindless fun, it's Saint's Row and Saint's Row 2 for me. When it's time for some realism and a dark feel, GTA 4 is where it's at.somelameshite said:Saint's Row. Anyone who argues that its not a GTA clone needs a sanity check.
