Modern games are all clones or rip offs somehow now. Genre's thrive on this. If no one ever copied anyone, therw ould be no genres, and there would only be that one game. Only one MMO, only one RPG, only one FPS, and even those cross into eachother. It is only when it is blatant that I do not mind bitching, or if it is bad. (Ie Gears 2 stealing Halo style matchmaking, cause Halo style matchmaking sucks)

I knew of Prototype before InFamous, so when I saw X-Play showing InFamous, I initially thought it was Prototype.

Bioshock ripped off System Shock 2 to the point where the game started bleeding. It was still a good game, but you'd be surprised at the number of people who call it "original."

Umm... it's a spiritual successor. I think it would be equally reasonable for people to complain about the differences. And not many games fill the niche that the Shock games fill, especially considering that the game is so cult you're lucky if you drop less than 40 USD for a legit copy.

On that same line of thinking, Grand Theft Auto, in its 3-D incarnations, is a rip-off of Driver 2.
Each 'clone' may have its own unique and beneficial mutations which set them apart from their 'source',if one judges from these examples.
As for failed 'clones',Spiritual Warfare for the NES was the most lackluster game inspired by The Legend of Zelda I have ever played. Neutopia and Willow bought something other than poor visuals and heavy-handed moralizing to bear unlike SW.

Halo was originally going to be a RTS like Halo Wars at first I'm pretty sure, I watched a video of some developer stuff

I also believed that SC: Ghost wasn't rumored until after Halo: CE came out. Not to mention they would most likely be completely different from one another gameplay and story wise.

Saint's Row is a bad rip-off, I haven't played the second one but the first was GOD-AWFUL. I hated it. They seemed to forget to put in what made GTA good.

Yeah, that's because it was billed as a "spiritual successor" to System Shock 2, and created by a dev team comprised in the majority of the same people that created System Shock 2. The lead designer, Ken Levine, was in charge of both games, they were supposed to be similar.

If you watch the game play, it looks almost exactly like Halo. The radar even looks identical.

Because Killzone is shit. Don't bother arguing otherwise, you have zero chance of changing my opinion, I don't have a PS3 so there's no point me buying it, the concept is unoriginal, the characters bland and stereotypical, it's target audience is suburban midland American 14-year-old boys with parentally-diagnosed ADHD (ie - being a shithead disorder) who listen to Korn, Disturbed and Slipknot and claim to be "metalheads".
