As someone who lives in NYC, it's a really biker-unfriendly place. A lot of drivers are massive assholes and will antagonize bikers. I personally know someone who was riding his motorbike up the middle of two stopped lanes in a traffic jam, and a spiteful person opened his car door to stop my friend, potentially causing an accident if he was going any faster.

I'm pretty sure your friend is in the wrong and what they were doing is illegal.

What sort of bikers don't display license plates? Ones out to cause trouble obviously. They should all be punished to the fullest extent of the law, including all the bikers who gave chase and/or did nothing to stop the violence.

If I was the driver of that SUV I would call the police, keep moving on open roads and occasionally "nudge" the bikers surrounding me - too bad if they slide/fall and die, they are literally begging for it.
It's good to know one of the bikers is in a coma and potentially paralyzed for the rest of his life.

Yeah, I'm not sure this is as black and white as you're trying to make it out to be. Like I said earlier, I ain't taking sides here because I, and you better believe you too, do not know the full truth of what happened. However, if there is any truth to this statement, then a potentially innocent man (because I'm sure not every biker was slashing tires and shit - if that even happened) will never walk again, and that is a pretty fucking serious issue.

What facts not in evidence have I assumed?

The SUV driver had no other choice. Did I not mention he's not being charged? That his vehicle was being attacked? That the accident was intentionally caused by one of the bikers? Wow, nice find. That first video alone shows them disregarding traffic lanes, failing to signal, driving on sidewalks, and 2 guys are even on 4 wheelers.

Edit: Wow that group U-turn in video 3 was ridiculous.

Edit 2: That last video shows them blowing through red lights in groups and one guy getting hostile towards a prius. It seems this kind of behavior is a regular occurrence for this particular group.

I could be wrong though, all I'm saying is what I saw in that video. Do we actually have any solid evidence that they were going to threaten the guy before he ran over them? After an accident, you are supposed to remain at the scene after all. From as far back as the camera is, all we can see is the bikers stopped and that is it.

Apparently when they first stopped the bikers produced knives and started trying to slash the guy's tyres, which is when he put his foot down (literally), he was also cut once the bikers caught up with him.

Of the various accounts I've read they don't all agree so it could be apocryphal, but more than one article mentions knives being present.

Cyclists are to blame for everything. Especially in my country, where they seem quite happy to use the roads, but not actually bother to adhere to the rules like all (well, most of, really) the other vehicles they share the road with.

As a cyclist I'd just like to say that it's all true, but we prefer you not to point it out. As punishment I'm going find you and leave dirty muddy tyre tracks all over your clean washing and all along your carpets.

I get disgusted when I see this arrogant behavior in my fellow riders. It's bad enough people in vehicles that can easily crush us like bugs tend to not pay attention to those of us who share the same road. Getting in a pack and acting like testosterone fueled adolescents doesn't help matters.

The rider who for no needed reason swerved in front of the SUV and then slowed down and got hit, is totally at fault. He was completely aware of the SUVs position and had no reason to impede it's progress other then intentionally harassing them, LIKE A DICK. Then to make matters worse his jackass friends scare the guy into bolting fearing for the safety of his wife and kid causing irreparable damage to the very friend they were looking after. The same friend who quite stupidly put himself in harms way for no other reason than being a dick in the fucking first place.

Moral of this story: Fellow riders everywhere, when you go out on the road, think with the thing in your helmet, not the one in your pants.

Just because a person does a thing doesn't mean it's the defining quality of their personality. I always hated that mentality-- like buying a motorcycle adjusts who you are as a person to fit the average traits of everybody who rides motorcycles. I think it's the same sort of mentality tha causes media outlets to shout the same sort of misinformed crap about vidja gurms making children into ball-slashing murderrapists cause some kid with emotional problems somewhere shot his parents after they took away CoD. You'd think gamers would be wiser about making sweeping demographical judgements, but whatever

Except I never made any sweeping generalization about all bikers, just the opposite, in fact, I was bemoaning that assholes like the ones in the video give other bikers a bad name, much the same as I bemoan the wankers screaming slurs down a microphone in a videogame giving us gamers a bad name.

In fact, my own father and younger sister are bikers and I've known plenty of decent bikers in my life to know they aren't all assholes like the ones in the videos (thus my anger at the ones in the video spreading a negative image of bikers to the general public).

Not actually sure if it's illegal for a motorcycle, especially given how many bikers do it, but even if it was that doesn't make it acceptable for civilians to endanger his life in an act of spite.

EDIT: If your friend was going fast enough for hitting the door to "Endanger his life" he was going way too fast to be splitting lanes anyways safely.

I'd rather say he provoked it. If you play around with fire, you might get burned. And if you drive a bike like a retard you might cause an accident. Even if he himself didnt do aynthing (which i highly doubt), he hung around with those idiots, and look at the moves they were pulling even before going apesh*t on the SUV. I wont say he deserves to get crippled, but i sure as hell wont feel sorry for him either. Karma's a bit*h.

He didn't. The guys that fought are in court today. The paralyzed guy did nothing.

"hanging around with idiots" can be another line of logic you can apply to anyone. None of it defensible.

I can argue the father was a horrible parent that he hung around bikers and should have his parental rights revoked and have his kids put into a better foster home that doesn't hang around bikers.

The worse the crippled guy ever did was have traffic violations on his record. If traffic violations warrant paralyzation, then why don't thieves get their hands cut off and domestic abusers get their balls cut off? And anyone who doesn't pay taxes automatically gets the death penalty?

To pick up your bullet example, no if you are going on in your daily life and get shot by a stray bullet, its not your fault. But if you hang around with people waving guns like its a game, you should've seen it coming.
