Gearbox is a reputable (and like-able) company, with a couple of smash hits under their belts too. They presented an extremely rosy picture of the game's development and general state. They showed extended and intentionally misleading footage to market it as best they could before release. Carefully prepared 'slices' of game-play were even previewed by journalists. Yet no one knew (or told) the true state of the game, or the appalling development problems before release.
