Wow I preordered it when it went up and I kind of thought it wasn't going to make it to the copy of xcom as I checked it the other day and it was nowhere near.

Awesome perk I am a very happy gamer now since I got a game I really wanted for free :3
Have you obtained your game yet? I still can't see my free copy anywhere.

I haven't no, I'm assuming it will appear in our steam inventory.
If it's anything like the previous games (Bioshock 1 for example) it will appear straight into your library unless you already own a copy (meaning no trading unless you've already bought it). This usually happens during the daily steam store update as someone at valve has to make sure it's all working and it's still early in the day over there.
Ah okay, My other games were indeed ones I had owned.

I trust valve to come through with it, playing dishonoured atm so I can be patient :3

Preorder bonuses can be nice, but I try not to let them sway my decision as to whether or not I'll buy a game at full price. My gaming backlog is pretty full, and I do already own XCOM (which is a great game, for sure), so it's not enough to push me towards a purchase. I'm sure I'll grab it whenever there's a sale, or perhaps even once all the DLC is released.

Guy's don't preorder stuff, it's not good for us as consumers in the long run, regardless of what incentives they give or if they game is actually good.

Nope. Fuck that.

If I know a game will be good and it comes with great incentives of other games I wanted/know are good. I will pre-order.

I have only ever been burned once on a pre-order and that was Brink. Then again, I let my friends persuade me into getting that game, a game I originally had no want for. I learned from my mistake and won't be making the same mistake twice.
How do you know the game will be good? Have you played it? Have you even played a demo? I get that you mean based on the quality of the previous games you suspect you will enjoy this one but that is at least 50% wishful thinking.

There aren't enough facepalm images on the internet for this.

Here's the thing: you don't know if that game will be good.

Eh, I already have XCOM and Bioshock (and I haven't finished either yet for some reason; I like 'em both a lot!) so this doesn't do much for me. I might get the game eventually after I finish the first two in the series; it'll probably be cheaper by then also.

If I hadn't preordered Metroid Prime Trilogy, I wouldn't even have it, because they discontinued it almost immediately. Not to mention, my favorite T-Shirt was a preorder bonus, and one of the best bonuses a game has ever included.

P.S. Thanks

I've seen one game do it right in recent memory. It offered the arbitrary pre-order bonuses, but had reviews up a solid...two weeks before release. Tomb Raider. Like the fact that reviews went up that early? That builds confidence, and makes me feel like you believe in the product you're going to release. If Bioshock ends up something like that in the next few days, more power to them...but I don't see it happening.

And I dunno, personally I've just had a hard time caring about this game. It looks like Bioshock again. But in the sky this time.
IGN's Bioshock Infinite review apparently goes up on Thursday, so still plenty of time to make a decision.

How will I know it will be good? Well lets see...
- I know my likes.
- I know my dislikes.

With this simple criteria, I have only had one single game out of well over a few hundred games I have pre-ordered in all my years fail me, and that was only because the game had very bad servers on the 360.

Actually, I do. I know a game will be good 99% of the time. I know that the next Kingdom Hearts game will be amazing. I know I will laugh my ass off at the next Disgaea. I know the next Metal Gear Solid title will make my cry tears of joy. I know what I like and what I dislike. That makes all the difference. I KNOW I will like a certain game, so I will buy it. However, there is one major caveat to games and most artistic media: It differs from person to person. Some people think God of War, Gears of War, Pokemon, Kingdom Hearts, Call of Duty, on and on, are bad games. Some think they are decent games. Some think they are great games. Some think they are godly games.

I know what games I will enjoy. I know the games I won't enjoy. Hell, just using those two tiny criteria I know that I will enjoy a certain game even before it comes out.

For Laymans terms since you probably won't understand as I write like shit:
For games I like: I buy/Pre-order.
For games I don't like: I stay away from.
For games I am on the fence on: I wait until I play a demo/get it very cheap/read reviews.
It's sounds like you're just loyal to specific game franchises. Hey what ever that is your business. Just remember the corporations that control the developers who make your franchises only see dollar signs when they decide to greenlight a new game in the franchise.

You know what, fuck it. I don't like pre-orders, but I am going to buy this game no matter what, so I might as well get some extra items at the same time.

Let me tell you something: You don't know whether a game is good before you play. Even reviews or demos won't help you here.

I bought Guild Wars 2 because everyone praised and hated it. Played for 5 days and never touched it again, despite loving MMOs. Alpha Protocol was flamed to hell and back for its gameplay, whereas I positively loved switching between my combat shotgun and stealthy ninja moves. Played demos of games that were meh, and later blew my mind.

A review can only point out flaws and its good parts and give an average indication how likely it is that you will enjoy the game. Nothing more, nothing less.

I have seen parts of the game and its story-telling. Unless Irrational's team is suffering from brain aneumia, their writing is going to stay at about the same level as before and therefore I am 90% going to enjoy it.
