Why are people always jizzing on Steampunk -.-

Anyways too much Bioshock in too little development time. -> Can't be that good.
Not only is the aesthetic gorgeous, it's especially the way of thinking that goes along with it.

Steampunk's era; the late 19th century and early 20th century, was a time in which science took gigantic leaps. It was a time marked by a feeling of bold discovery, of a brave new world, of optimism. A world in which craftsmanship still counted for something, in which one man could discover and contribute so much.

Lots of people, including me, find that "brave, bold & beyond" feeling very appealing.

Raptures fall is, to some extent, covered in bioshock 2 multiplayer. But i would want to see what you described come into a game.
Ehhhh I beg to differ. You don't actually see it happen, you just hear some audio diaries.

What I'm proposing is Prototype-esque world progression. In the beginning Rapture would still be pristine, everthing would be as glorious as advertised. But as time progresses, splicing becoming more and more commonplace and Atlas' organisation (and thus you) wrecking more and more havoc, you'd see the city descend into madness.

More and more people on the streets who'd splice themselves into oblivion, some of them making living weapons out of themselves, robbing and killing people, at one point there'd be rioting and an ever increasing presence of security forces until it all finally erupts into the big civil war that utterly destroys the city.

And then there's the rest about it. I'm absolutely convinced it'd be fantastic.

... So bioshock has changed hands again, and now we get something even less in line with the original. "Okay, oaky... we saw bioshock 2 kinda tanked, so we're going to make it better. We're going to make it in... THE SKY! YES! You are also, instead of being a (twist not withstanding) normal guy thrust into the entire situation, a secret agent! Fuck yea!!"
Irrational Games made the first game but were named 2K Boston when it was released, they recently got their name back though. Anyway, i'm extremely excited for this game! It's a shame it's coming out in 2012 and i hope it's not PS3 exclusive which an article seems to suggest.

It feels like something is floating in my chest... /badjoke I'm praying this will be good. Almost disappointed it's not called SteamShock. Oh well.

Huh... This looks good, but all this tech that American seams to have lieing around for the last 58 years makes a lot of plot holes for the rest of the Bioshock series unable to explain, like why does everybody still have the "normal" tech of the 1940's when we were capable of making FLYING CITIES without adam, or why didn't Andrew Ryan mention the thing once? If it was kept secret... SOMEHOW (which it isn't), wouldn't he be the guy to find out about it no matter what for the construction of his own city away from the ground?
I'm guessing it's just common knowledge, so there's no point in bringing it up. Or it is a secret, and a good one at that. Plus this game is about machines and steampunk, as opposed to biopunk which (at least to me), is more advanced. And building a city underwater would be a lot harder to structurally build what with pressure and all that. So it kind of makes sense.

Sounds interesting. I wish they would start a brand new IP, they are very good at their jobs.

I like the beginning of the trailer, you see the Big Daddy and Rapture in the distance. Nice job leading us to thinking its another Bioshock sequel.

Holy shit, do want.

Although I'm a little saddened the "shock" reveal wasn't a System Shock game.

Yeah... no gameplay. Not even proof-of-concept of gameplay. The thing that made Bioshock 1's original first-person trailer so compelling was that it showed what players could expect out of the experience of playing the game, and even if the mock-up was a bit more dynamic than the final product turned out it was still pretty spot-on, showing they had a really solid idea of what they were trying to deliver.

This is a guy stumbling helplessly through the air. Yes, it's all very impressive and gives a vague notion of what the story's about, it's very shiny and all that, but it gives me this sense that they're trying to distract us with spectacle to cover up for all the stuff they don't know or understand about the game themselves yet. I'm not saying that it'll necessarily be a bad game, but I wouldn't jizz myself over this until I see that the actual game looks promising too.

Still, I like that they seem to be expanding from underwater shenanigans to an overall Jules Vernian theme.

To be honest, it looks kind of ridiculous. Like with the steampunk influences and the word "Bio' removed it could be another game entirely.

Maybe... but if either was true, Andrew Ryan would at least find out about it or study it for his own city, which would warrent at least some mention in an audio diary.

Though if your building a city in the sky, you would have to figure out how to balance the thing so it does tip over in strong winds, or the whole city would be flipped upside down.

I like the idea of it but I thought Plasmids were developed in rapture by that Doctor/Scientist so how is anything related to Plasmids going to fit in.

Also the girl at the end looked like something out of Disney especially her face when she was grabbed.

And did anyone else see the Andrew Ryan look-a-like on the balcony? If it is then it might fit in with this theory:

I still say that Rapture is Columbia fallen into the ocean.

It's the only way we can tie it to the Bioshock universe, without there being some plot twist that the guy who built Columbia is Ryans father or something.

Hmm. I already remember there being another story-driven FPS trilogy numbered 1, 2, Infinity, except it already came out ~15 years ago. You may even have heard of the people who made it [http://www.bungie.net/], too.

(Not that I'm directly comparing them in any way or think they are or will be at all similar, just that the coincidental numbering is kind of funny.)

I get the feeling that this game and BioShocks 1 and 2 have nothing in common except the title. Brand loyalty and all that. I'll definitely have to see more to make myself less skeptical. And since this game is 2 years away, that could take some time.

1. This probably should be an alternative universe, for why the heck would the city not be mentioned at all in Bioshock 1 or 2.

Potential spoiler for my second point-
2. I wonder if this will have the same plot twist as Bioshock and System Shock 2.. (I never played System Shock 2 but it seems from reading various forums online that it had a similar plot twist...)

I think this isn't really a prequel; more of a reimagining. Just like how Bioshock wasn't a prequel to System Shock.

That said, this could either be awesome or incredibly stupid. The fact that it was born from the rejected ideas for the original Bioshock doesn't speak well for it so far.

Im not seeing the connection between anything we know about Infinite and Bioshock 1. And i never regarded Bioshock as a broad franchise, actually, i never thought of it as a franchise in the first place. I thought Rapture, plasmids and Ryan were the alpha and omega of Bioshock. But who am i to argue with its creator? I guess ill have to wait to hear more. So far, looks pretty.
