Bioshock's replayability

I've decided to play through bioshock again since I got myself a lovely LG high Def TV (if your curious about the LG tele's I thoroughly recommend them, I could lick the screen when I see chocolate)... anyway... onto the crux of this thread.

I've found I don't like Bioshock, the first playthrough was epic due to its narrative and in the back of my mind I knew that, but through the second and subsequently this playthrough I find I'm just going through the motions.

I've turned off vita chambers and put the difficulty on hard, which the ardent Bioshock supporters states dilutes the experience, but I'm not liking it one bit. The combat is "meh", sure I can create strategies to overcome foes but I still find them to be too easy and not a problem, I actually had a problem with a splicer when my Telekenisis wouldn't pick up barrels for me to shove in her dirty rotten face and I died. I thought, damn I wish I had Freemans gravity gun since that fucking works all of the time.

Anyway, I understand Bioshock is great, yes I thought that too on first play through, but the narrative kept me going... now I'm forcing myself to like it and play it to make use of my stupidly good TV.

For me, what kept me going on subsequent playthroughs was finding bits of narrative I didn't quite catch the first time, due to immersion in the experience keeping me from paying too much attention to the little and, as it turns out, fascinating details. That, and going for Brass Balls actually was quite fun for me.

Yeah I never thought Bioshock had replayability.
Great first play through. I was riveted to the very end.
Then I tried playing a second time, and I couldn't do it.

The mystique, the horror...all gone.
Oh well. The first time was awesome.

I played through it twice. Now, my friend wants to buy it and I say, "Neigh, have my copy."

Personally, I didn't like Bioshock the first time I played it.
I thought it was decent at best, with a nice story, but nothing more. I guess the only
replayability is the different paths you choose between devouring or saving the little sisters.

Well, you sound like me the first time I played it. It took me over a year to beat that game. It's a lot of fun, and an excellent game, but watch Yahtzee's review, because I completley agree with him.

To me, I've played other more complex games, so that may be one reason. But I think it's a lack of options and "Oomph" the game has.

I've never wanted to replay it, and I thought the combat was slightly meh the first time around. Health bars above their heads and shooting them didn't feel like it had much of an impact even when it was point blank to their ugly noggin, just another bit of health bar goes down. Wasn't satisfying enough for me.

I adore the work of storytelling art that is Bioshock, but I'd have to agree, it's hard to play through a second time. The gameplay was great, and the atmosphere was absolutely enthralling, but the constant fetch missions really start to grind your second time through. Still though, amazing game. I would probably play through it again if I got surround sound... that would be terrifying.

My friends beaten BioShock 5 times and doens't show any signs of stopping until he's done his 6th playthrough with is the beat the game on Survivor mode without using a Vita-Chamber.

He's really good at it.

It can have fun replay value if you challenge yourself.

Thats what I did on the second playthrough, I only did it for the lost bits of recordings I couldn't find first time, I found out that i'm an obsessive compulsive and I got everything first time round.... yay me.

I found that too, its weird when you shoot Steinman square in the face and the response is almost bugger all.

I've got the game on pause right now and I don't want to go play it, its on pause because i'm forcing myself, but I still don't wanna play it.

Bioshock is an Epic story with fantastic atmosphere, unfortunatly it's wrapped around a sub-par shooter. The way it handles and feels have been done so much bettter in other games, it's really a shame because it has such a good story but it just isn't fun to play.

It does lack replay value, even if it is my favorite game, but I can still play through it and be entertained because I usually find something that I missed the first time. I also thought it was way too easy, but I never knew you could turn-off the Vita-chambers so that might have had something to do with it.

Had the same experience, actually. Bioshock was carried by the story and all of it's brilliance came from the twist. Everything else just was substantial enough to carry that many hours of gameplay.

I didn't care for bioshock the first time around. Does this make me a mutant freak?

But yeah, doesn't seem like a replay kind of game.

I play Bioshock again every like 8 months or so because I had such a good time, but I am biased everything about this game appealed to me albeit the photo taking, which felt a little clunky and took me out of the immersion.
And if you don't like the game, don't play it. I didn't finish GTA4 because it got boring to me so I stopped. Grow a set and play a different game. There are better games that can make use of your awesome new TV.
