BioWare Gets a New Boss

It has finally happened! I can finally say that apart from a small bit of schaudenfreude I have zero fucks to give about EA putting another slug in my once favorite dev.

Call me crazy, but I kinda wanted Casey Hudson for the job as a way of promoting him away from anything creative. I mean, he can manage a team well enough, but he can't art worth a shit.

Remember, he was the chucklefuck who said having a final boss for Mass Effect 3 was too video gamey.

Honestly, at this point I'm just hoping that there remains life enough in Biowares halls to finish the Dragon Age series well, after that's done, all bets are off.

My predictions are that Bioware's games will gradually lose touch with their core audience, and their shackles to EA will insure they aren't allowed to change. Most of the writers will probably quit or be hired by other companies, but I'm concerned that the designers will continue to work under EA.

I hope I'm wrong, but this strikes me as EA giving up on preserving Biowares creative freedom and reputation.

It's impossible to discuss anything rationally here because the EA hate pile just crushes anything else.

One question! Why would you put such inadequately experienced guy at the helm of important development studio? Even with all that DA and ME hate there are still millions of potential sales among their fans, you may not want to alienate those people further with decisions like that.

Let me suggest something. I know it will be a shocking thought, and an unpopular one. Maybe, just maybe, the head honchos at EA know more about who is the best choice for a replacement CEO than us gamers sitting on a computer, looking at paper accomplishments to decide.

No, I'm not being sarcastic. I'm not saying he is definitely going to be a great choice. I am, however, saying that there is more than a good chance that they know more about his qualifications than we do.

Finally, as for the TOR F2P thing, it never said he was responsible for the F2P model itself, just the implementation. Say what you want about the TOR F2P model (yes, it is pretty bad), it was implemented smoothly. Maybe that's what will be best for Bioware: someone who can make development run smoothly.
