I personally believe that Mass Effect has the best story, better then star wars. I'm really looking forward to the planet exploration, well a more detailed planet exploring kinda thing.
Agreed.

...I better stop posting in this thread, I'm already the Official Escapist Mass Effect Fanboy, I shouldn't push it.

Too late, orannis.

But I've got to say, people are still overreacting to the "Shepard's death" thing a little too strongly. As a teaser, it's meant to create a stir and get people drawn back into the game. It's just a cost-effective hype-mechanic.

Not surprised. Take your time Bioware, I'm not in any rush. I'm excited, but the longer I wait, the more I'll enjoy it!
Second.

I'd rather wait a while for a sweet game than get half-baked fan service quickly.

Too late as in I've already pushed it, or that you were the Official Fanboy before me? To the former, I reply "Oh, crap..." To the latter, I reply "No way are you more of a fanboy than me."

See how I flipped that?

How much do you want to bet on that? :)

Anyways, I can't wait for this game to come out, but I also want them to take their time with it. This is really the first time I've ever followed a game's development from the start, So I'm wondering: Is about a year (since this announcement) a long time or a short time or just about average time?

I would complain that Bioware are making a KoTOR MMORPG and that I won't get Mass Effect 2 until 2010 but I won't have a 360 at that point anyway.

It is encouraging to hear that they're fixing those elements that dragged the last game down and that trailer is really open and interesting

Oh goody, it's official. Not like we didn't know about it before, but still. Cool.
Well, it's sort of been official since they announced it would be a trilogy before the first one came out, I find it so weird that every time they make an announcement, it's the "first official announcement."

Awesome! I can't wait for this one to come out. I loved the first one and I'm excited about the "increased depth of planet exploration." Hopefully they will fix that stupid sniper rifle with the next game.
I assume this is a 360 problem? Because I played an Infiltrator/Commando in the PC version and the sniping felt just fine to me. Accuracy and damage were never an issue, and I took down a lot of dudes with that thing.

Yea? I played the PC version and I thought sniping was horrible, it felt more suited to a game like Hitman with the lack of accuracy. For the fast pace and multiple enemies they should have made it...well a bit more smooth I guess (I didn't put too many points in it though)

There you have it then.
Remember that this is first and foremost a RPG. You should not be able to take down people with a sniper rifle if you have not trained your character to do it.

Intensified combat kind of worries me. Please do not move even more towards shooter territory. It is already very crowded there.
You might be right there. The combat never felt like an RPG to me, it is pretty much a shooter (like Fallout 3) but I guess that's why it got so much praise on the 360. The Sniper was definetly a lot weaker compared to the Assault Rifle in my opinion, especially in boss fights where multitasking was needed.

You guys are going to far in assuming that Cerberus is correct in believing Shepard dead. Not only have all been advised on the official forums to keep their saves (and quote from 'Evil' Chris Priestly: "The trailer tells you nothing") but they have not altered their original stance that Shepard from 1 carries through

Rampant speculation time: Several remarks made in a documentary on the platinum hits version had to do with the game exploring the nature of being and in particular the humanity/value of someone or something like an AI. The trailer shows what appears to be the N7 (Onyx)armor ON something Geth. Remember also that the Geth are leaderless after Sovereign (their GOD) is destroyed BY SHEPARD. They are also capable of thinking independently and were building shrines in Mass Effect 1.

When you consider that Bioware has a penchant for people thinking significant characters are dead (look no further than Revan, or heck, Shepard for a few minutes already), for following Campbellian Hero's Journey plots, and have even had the player character survive death and come back according to the "Journey to hell" part of the motif in Jade Empire, I start to think we'll be seeing cyber-shepard of some kind trying to regain humanity with some flavor of sympathetic splinter Geth. Speculation, sure, but not baseless at all.

That's an interesting comment. In the early stages of the game I was concerned that I'd screwed myself by taking the Infiltrator class in what was obviously a very combat-heavy RPG but by the time I reached the second half, it was the complete opposite: The character felt ridiculously overpowered. With pistol and sniper skills maxed out plus solid tech talents, killing everything I saw was a breeze.

Personally, I'd rather see a reduced focus on the combat aspect of the game in favour of more emphasis on role-playing. Shooting guys was fun and the game did a great job of making it feel "right" but for an RPG there sure was an awful lot of third-person shooting going on.
