Just to be contrary I'm going to hope he died...maybe he even caught the Swine Flu that would be great.

I worked too hard to make him look pretty for him to just die.
Wow. You actually managed to create a Sheppard who isn't ugly as sin?

Slow news day, huh?

Anyways, killing Shepard wouldn't make any sense since Bioware has confirmed that you can use your save file from the first game to continue playing the character you've built up.... wouldn't work if (s)he was dead........
of course it could make sense, you could be fighting a villain that YOU made badass

Exactly it would be a major insult to have put this much effor into creating a character that is entirely yours, then have someone else snatch it away from you against your will.
That would be like if you built an entire mansion, layed every brick yourself and even made all the furniture and then when it is exactly perfect and the way you want it... someone burns it down.
If Bioware are smart they won't do this.

Space Swine Flu?
Exactly and there will be galactic wide pandemonium with people jumping out of skyscrapers so they won't catch the Dreaded Space Swine Flu that has to date kill 5 people and a space monkey.

Plenty of Bioware games let you carry saves from one to the other.

I'm hoping the difference here will be whether you'll be able to carry history regarding NPCs and decisions made across the game world.

Other than that, it could also be similar to the save game from Baldur's Gate 1 to 2, where essentially your character was the same, but you could also modify him.

Something tells me though, Shepard will be a "constant" throughout the trilogy.

In all, even if it is heartbreaking I wish for Shepard's death. Makes room for better narrative and creative use of savegames. Oh...and yes...my Shepard was pretty ugly. :D

Who knows. We could speculate. Maybe he will be cloned or his brain is put into a robot body like robocop.
I'd definately play that game.

Am I the only guy who made my Sheperd character a woman....I will admit she was better to look at the whole game though; made sure of that.
Nope, I did as well. The voice acting was just so much better.

Shepard just needs some kind of surgery. I bet my...popsicle stick.

Like how you remade the same character in Saint's Row 2. But through reconstructive surgery.

hmm, I assume that they will be doing the character transfer similar to the .hack games where you kept everything from the previous ones. I just wonder one thing and that is will decisions made in the first come into play in the second? I'd be pretty astonished if some _> Ex-squad members came back from the dead.

Also, my shepard was beeoooteefool.

Why are you guys even bothering to speculate about this anyway. (Yes, I have seen the trailers, yes I have played and LOVED the original Mass Effect, and yes I have made several different Shepards) Why no just have some bit of patience and wait for the actual game to come out, before going on and on about this speculative nonsense. Because, ultimately, no amount of speculation will ever have any impact whatsoever on what Bioware intends to do with THEIR franchise.

That's a frightening thought.... I'd have to go back and play through the first game focusing my character on shoe repair and database management.... or something........

Let's just hope that Mass Effect 2's storyline doesn't have an unexpected prison sequence then.

Ba-dum tish

Thank you ladies and gentlemen, I'm here all night!
Jail sex scene to replace the romance one in Mass Effect 1. *Shudders*
I don't care if he's dead or not. I just want the story to be good.
