yep I see the potential for this thread to be interesting. *Steals some of Zeren's popcorn and kicks back*

OT: Also I would say the Belieber fanbase is friggen crazy. I'm not hating on Beiber or anything cause people can listen to what they want but good lord some of those girls, and whatever guys are in the mix, are crazy. I just don't see why people almost worship some actors and singers, but maybe it's just me.

hmm... ive got a vocabulary question- if ambivalence is not caring about either side of an arguement whats the word for hating/being bored of both sides?
I'd rather think of apathy as absolute boredom, and antipathy for an actual hatred for both sides.

Holy Shit! No one's turning this into a massive flame war! Have we finally learned how to behave?

This. This is the answer to all of these threads.

I'm gonna go with christianity having the weirdest fandoms around, I mean you have all these cults with their odd slash fanfic versions of the bible, then they fight with each other over whose fanfic is best, they have dedicated trolls that troll the funerals of competing fandom, parents and grand parents go to great lengths to make sure that their children and grandchildren become part of the fandom.
Ooooooooh, I never thought about it that way; but it makes perfect sense!

Cynicism?
I think maybe it should be apathy?
Apathy would be not caring about either side of the argument.

Sorry, I misread the first quote, cynicism would be the best word in the situation

I really think they are just about all bad, particularly when signing up to be a fanboy for a company, for example my friend is a huge bioware fanboy (star wars too), he and i both played dragon age 2, i was fairly disappointed by the constant reuse of the same dungeons among other things, he would always counter my arguments by saying "Its a bioware game, therefore its awesome in every way and your wrong". yes, everyone is allowed their own opinion and this opinion is subjective, but you shouldn't ignore the flaws due to liking a company.

there is nothing worse to a series of anything than fans, they can help out but if you follow everything that they want, you end up with the previous product, just a little prettier.

Ingame sex in any MMO is just plain weird to me. I've seen it in WoT for f*ck sakes...

When on the internet, sex is only a few lines of text away >.<

Eh. I try not to judge anyone because I understand some of the things that I do are weird. I've for instance known many meatheads who can't stand "animoo" simply for being something they are unfamilair with. They will then insist that everyone who watches it is a weirdo and a dork then... they turn right around and commence their fantasy football leagues. Oh it is to laugh.
Those guys are sports nerds. And gay guys are penis nerds, and Christians are Jesus nerds, and gearheads are car nerds, and grammar nazis are word nerds. Everyone's got something they enjoy (more often then not a little too much) and they're going to fight about whose dick is bigger. Even women have e-peen (Holy shit, that's a blast from the past. Yeah I'm bringing it back. Help me out Escapists.).

I don't understand the "Have to know" fans. You know those people who always want to understand why other people could be a fan of anything that they themselves don't like.
I know!! I mean when it comes down to it

Ponies. Love them or hate them you have to admit that MLP has gathered one of the weirdest followings...ever. Here is a show drenched in soft pretty colors with protagonists sporting names like "Fluttershy" and "Twilight sparkle" going on adventures to discover the magic of friendship. This show just screams "FOR FEMALES 8 AND YOUNGER!". So how in God's name has this show attracted the polar opposite of its core demographic, namely internet lurking males in the 16-24 range? That's like digging in Texas for oil and finding the bones of the russian royal family.
Excuse me, but I find that the adoration of all things cute and adorable should be the majority of adult culture in the West, thank you very much.

Now excuse me while I go pet my kitty.:3

Yaoi I'm a pretty big fan of, too. And I'll be the first to admit a "shallow" love of all things cute and prettyboy goes into my video game purchases. Play Gears of War instead of Dirge of Cerberus, you say? Much better game/gameplay, you say? But Vincent is so much cuter than those Gears of War dudes! I mean come on, just look at Vincent! Don't you want to hug him?

On the other hand, I don't talk in bad internet-speak stuff. So perhaps I don't count as a "yaoi fangirl". Do I?

Well, I'm not trying to offend anybody. Especially since many of my fellow "bronies" are fans of it. But I don't quite get Team Fortress 2. Namely, what's so funny about it and why everyone seems obsessed with making "SANDVICH!" and Garry's Mod jokes/works. I'm not an FPS fan, but at least Portal I can understand. Portal is full of trying to be darkly humors. It makes sense that many people would try to replicate that. But Team Fortress 2? That I don't get.

The Homestuck fandom isn't really surprising in its makeup (teen/early-twenties kids with unbridled internet access, shocking) as much as its unbelievable speed in reacting to updates. I don't even know an anime fandom that produces fanart at the rate this thing does. D:
This, the speed of the Homestuck fandom amazes me beyond anything. They have art, and often full-fledged cosplays, out and ready within hours (sometimes minutes) of an update's release.
