Win 7 may be expensive but Win 8 is coming out for $40 to upgrade from XP. Do that people.
What? Why would anyone want to do that? To go from a stable, customizable OS to an OS that has a nearly un-changeable UI and no desktop to speak of is absolutely devoid of reason.
I am just guessing here but maybe they would want to do that because:

- It's cheaper than 7 for the first 3 months
- To play newer games

It's like you didn't even know what thread you were posting in.
They could get windows 7 and be better off. Like I said earlier in the thread if you go from windows XP to windows 8 then you have to factor in the cost of upgrading from windows 8 to windows 7 which is $120.
I ignored your opinion the first time for a reason. I like Windows 7 too but Windows 8 is just fine and if one upgrades to Windows 8, they will probably be happy with it.

If I were still using XP I would jump on the cheap upgrade. We are all gamers here, soon XP will be useless to gamers.
Windows 8 is crap based on the version they have out now as a preview. I'm sure gamers would rather upgrade to 7 than get windows 8 as it's clearly the better deal.

Every game I tried to run on Windows 8 ran just the same as it does on Windows 7. Drop the BS, if you have legit complaints about Windows 8 then cool but this complaint is not legitimate.

Everyone: Has everyone noticed how the CAPTCHAS now try really hard to get to you to type an ad slogan? You may have to refresh 5 or 6 times to get away from an ad and many times it's the same ad coming back over and over again.
Legit complaint: They got rid of the start menu in favor of something that looks awful. Until they patch that windows 7 is gonna keep looking better and better.
Cool but it still runs games as well as Windows 7 because outside of the start menu changes, it is Windows 7.

So then the question is "Is the start menu worth $80?" Personally I'd say yes, if I'm going to be using it for years then $80 is a small price to pay to not want to cut my eyes out everytime I go to find a program.

...and that's fine. It was just a suggestion to people who don't want to pay full price to upgrade from XP. If they can live with Windows 8 for 1/3 of the price of Windows 7, then it's an option for them.

Oh no!! The eleven year old OS is no longer supported?! Whatever shall we do???!!!
Not play this game? I mean I thought it was pretty obvious since we lacked the ability to do so. Oh did you mean for us to ***** and moan about not being to play the latest and greatest shooter? please... I'm too busy playing better games that game out long ago that for some reason can't run on Vista or Windows 7 (fancy that shit).

Not really. They're in it for the money. At some point the extra costs of development will be greater than the loss of profit from the few people left on the old system.

they should not be made to feel guilty
Who ever said anything about guilt? You can use whatever OS you like without any pangs of conscience at all. You just can't expect software developers to care.

when it is perfectly logical to skip this PC release in favor of console, and continue using XP to play other new and incoming games.
I don't really think paying £60 for the latest Return of Call of Battlefield's Bride's Son 32: Electric Boogaloo can be called "perfectly logical" regardless of what system you play it on.

People still run xp for gaming? I'm sorry but apart from backwards compatibility (which let's be honest you could use a VM for) why would you still be using when the majority of new features that come out don't even support XP.

Don't get me wrong I love xp, but I could never go back to it as my main OS, Windows 7 is just so much prettier and runs faster on my machine than xp, and while yes it uses more RAM a 4GB windows 7 machine will run any game out there, i should know, i ran a setup like that for years (only upgraded this January gone), you'll find 7 automatically adjusts the amount of RAM it uses depending on your system, my old 4GB system idles with 1GB in use while my 16GB idles at 1.6GB and that's running the exact same background programs (should mention I'm running 7 pro not home so there may be a few differences).

Hell you could even upgrade to 8, it takes some getting used to but it runs as well as 7 does. I don't think I'll be using it on my gaming rig for now but it runs great on my netbook, and yes I'm running the real release (Microsoft give me OS's a month in advanced because my uni is a part of their academy).

Oddly, even though a lot of Engines derive or have it's roots in IDTech3 they all dump OpenGL.

Wouldn't even be having this issue.

What the heck is the Article image of? It looks like some sort of attack walker. Pretty sure Black Ops 2 doesn't have those.

Like the other, youve misintepreted where that was directed. Its not directed at the software devs, Microsoft OR affiliates of Activision.

However, the numbers on XP are still by a wide berth in favor of XP. You do not see it for the fact that XP was no where near as intrusive of an OS with call home programs enbedded in the OS. Those numbers represent only a fraction of systems running XP at the moment.

It does have under the hood improvements over 7 to, faster start up native support for USB 3.0 and dual monitor support to name a few, it would be a great sucessor to 7 if not for the shitty metro thing they are pushing on the desktop version. You can get around it though thanks to Stardock. http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/

Also on topic, this is going to happen a lot more, XP reached the end of its lifespan and has been replaced. Its a great OS don't get me wrong but it just can't compete with Win 7.

-It is cheaper. But it's terrible. Why not just spend the extra money to get a good product?
- Windows 7 can play every single game on the market, and from what I have heard, a small number of devs are not even going to be supporting Windows 8(this last part is mostly just rumor, so take it with a grain of salt.) I really can't see anyone dropping 7 support until long after something better than 8 comes out. Unless they switch to Linux.

Well, I guess my point was that Windows 8 is just as good at playing games as Windows 7 so if you can tolerate Metro, then buy that for $40 instead of Windows 7 for $120.

People still clinging to XP need to upgrade if they intend to play newer PC games. Hell, I have had Windows 7 for 2 1/2 years and when I got Windows 7, I was just happy to see something different. 9 years of looking at the same OS was enough.

I've been using XP for a decade and it's by far the most stable Microsoft Operating System I've experienced, and I harken back to the MSDOS/Windows 3.11 days.
I can understand this though for support reasons.

Black Ops who? You seen one boring war game, you seen them all. zzzzzzz. Just lost more money for the XP people who liked the average game.
