Of those two, I would go with Black Ops 2, simply because it will be released for a platform I own... but I'm really with the neither crowd. Haven't seen a passable shooter come out in a long time.

I will likely get Halo 4 over Black Ops 2 because I'm more into the story of Halo then COD. However, if I have enough money, I'll buy both games since they both look fun.

That, and I need more games for my PS3.

Black Ops 2, because I don't have an Xbox anymore, and because I'm somewhat of a CoD fanboy.

Almost every response in this thread is absolutely wrong and disappointing. The typical response is, "Neither, I played a call of duty game and didn't like it, and since I have never played a Halo game and it is a shooter it must be bad! Go buy X game!"

He asked one fucking question of which one to buy and you guys had to be the most immature I've ever seen since the Aurora Massacre thread.

Go buy Halo 4 first, it will have the most change amongst the two games and it'll still be relatively fun.
Agreed.

My answer: Halo 4. While I like that CoD is trying to go in a new direction, Blops 2's plot looks like an absolute mess, and it doesn't seem like Treyarch has learned anything about pacing since Blops 1. They also haven't improved the color any.

Halo 4 looks gorgeous, has an interesting premise (though I'm not sure how I feel about the SPARTAN IVs), smooth gameplay, more customization in multiplayer, and actually gives the Chief a personality.

I'll decide once I see some gameplay of the new, updated Zombies mode, running on the multiplayer engine. If that's any good, then I'll probably look forward to Black Ops 2 more than Halo 4. Until then though, Borderlands 2.

On a serious note Im really just expecting "More of the same as the last more of the same" from both these games. Halo started to repeat under its original studio, so im skeptical they can make the game seem fresh again especially considering it will be the 4th major Halo release this generation never-mind overall.

Halo 4 and Borderlands 2 are the only two shooters I've been looking forward to this year.

If I had to pick one it'd be Halo 4. I don't really like Call of Duty enough to go out and buy one. Plus I have wanted to see what Halo was like for a while now.

The Wii-U and its exclusives. I love Rayman Origins, can't wait for Zombi-U (even if it is the Red Steel 1 to the U), Pikman 3 and, the ports from a few months ago which I haven't played yet (yes, ME3 and Arkham City. Haven't played either and don't plan to until Wii-U. I am the 1%).

Out of Blops 2 and Halo 4, I guess I'm Halo 4 by default but I'm not buying either game. I finished the fight in 2007 and enjoyed the history lesson well enough last year or the year before but I don't see myself buying a new Halo title until they make the space-flight/ space combat game I like to think Reach hinted at. The only CoD game I grabbed was CoD4 and that was enough for me.

No chance in hell of me getting Halo 4 because i lack the nessesary Xbox to play it.

No chance in hell of me getting BlOps2, because if i wanted a fast-paced multiplayer gunfest where ill get screamed at over the internet by 12 year olds who just learned what i swear is i would simply boot up the most relevant Counter Strike game in my posession.

I could go on to suggest other games such as Borderlands 2, which i look forward to in the same way a teenager looks forward to getting laid, but thats hardly the point of the thread.

While I'm selling my Xbox and thus not getting either game, Halo 4 seems more interesting to me. Despite the somewhat cliché source material and lacklustre last game in the franchise, I want to see what 343 can do with the story. Plus the MP looks interesting and Forge has been improved too.
Black Ops 2 just looks like CoD 4... for the fifth time I think? The campaign seems kind of interesting, but I can guarantee that it'll devolve into some vague (or not so vague) patriotic bullshit eventually.

To be fair, it'd be canonically wrong to let Cortana stay sane and not go rampant like most AIs. I'm all for it since it could help characterization of the supposed blank Chief and Cortana herself. The rest? I completely agree. Taking out the Sangheili is heresy!

Halo 4, just for the reason that the gameplay between Halo games has always been at least slightly different (if still pretty similar). Even 3 and ODST, despite running on exactly the same engine, had a bit of a different feel from each other. Compare this to Call of Duty, where every game post-CoD3 has had virtually identical gameplay.

However Halo 4 has broken my heart in so many ways. Having seen some of the footage and heard details about it I can honestly say that it's very far away from the original formula. None of the old charm seems present, I really don't like that they seem to be turning Cortana into a psycho and I SERIOUSLY don't like how the Covenant have somehow returned despite the Elites allying with the humans and all the Prophets being dead. I also am annoyed that the Covenant now appear to just be generic cookie cutter evil alien monsters indistinguishable from the locust or the Ceph or any other evil aliens. In Halo 1, 2 and 3 the Covenant had actually personality and were even humanized to some degree, this is lazy.
Keep in mind that Cortana going crazy's been shadowed since around Halo 2, maybe even a bit earlier. Most of it was in the expanded universe, though. Plus, most signs point to the "Covenant" present in Halo 4 just being Elite/Grunt/Jackal pirates, note how a lot of the Elites don't even have a full suit of armour.

Personally, I prefer the look of Halo 4 since they've been willing to change more things, even though making minimal changes is easier and still guaranteed to sell. A lot of the trailers have an almost Metroid Prime-y feel to them, and since I feel that the MP trilogy's one of the greatest achievements of gaming, I'm obviously pretty on board with the changes :p

Hey, I'm all for that. I just don't want to see Cortana made into an evil villain that then has to be killed by the Masterchief. That's all. Seeing Cortana actually overcome her rampancy would make for compelling character development.

I just worry they'll take the easy way out.

And the Elite's I can understand you being pissed by. I am too... Hopefully they do something about that.
Yes, you can probably tell from my avatar where I stand on the importance of Elites in multiplayer. The Elites are what made it interesting and the reason why I stuck with Halo for mutliplayer over all else. I've had to accept compromises along the way, Elites only having five armor permuations in Halo 3 and Elites only being on specific modes in Matchmaking in Halo: Reach. I can accept Elites not being in Matchmaking because you want it to be focussed on the Spartans but for fuck's sake I should still be able to play as them in custom games.

Yeah I get that it's a splinter group (called 'the Storm' apparently) that left the Covenant but all the same after all the work Halo 2 and Halo 3 did to humanize the Elites and form an alliance between the Sangheili and the humans it annoys me that Halo 4 leapt at the first chance to make a retcon so that *some* Elites are still 'evul alienz' that can be slaughtered with glee. The Arbiter and his people had really better make some kind of impact in Halo 4's new trilogy, because his story line was what made Halo so compelling to me in the first place and I don't want to see that just pushed under the rug at the first oppurtunity.

As a side note can I just say how much the new looks for the Covenant annoy me? There is no consistency. The Grunts in Halo 1 and 2 were like little amphibian monkeys but then in Halo 3 to Halo: Reach they looked more like large arthropods and now they look like this:
It doesn't even look like the same type of creature!

Then we look at the Elites who look for all the world like Sangheili/Locust hybrids (I'd still play as one given the chance, mind.) They've made it look hideous and monstrous, the Covenant Sangheili roaring into battle is a thing of grace and beauty not monstrousness!

And finally the Jackals... I don't even need to say anything other than that THIS-
-IS NOT A JACKAL!

Granted the aesthetics for Covenant in each Halo game vary slightly but at their core they were always the same basic thing. These redesigns are just insane. And I know I sound anally retentive about it but it still stands, this annoys me. Because these attempts to make the Covenant look monstrous rather than the original art design of basing them on Earth animals really does just feel like an attempt to go the dark and edgy route that other alien shooters go.

Personally, I prefer the look of Halo 4 since they've been willing to change more things, even though making minimal changes is easier and still guaranteed to sell. It's true, there are some cool and interesting elements of Halo 4 that might be worth looking at. However Halo 4 could cure cancer, bring about gender equality, end racism, end poverty, bring about world peace and enter us into a new age of enlightenment but if I can't play as an Elite anywhere in it I'll still be pissed off at it.

Both.

Halo 4 because I am and always will be a large fan of Halo, as well as curious to how 343 handles it, and Black Ops 2 because I'm interested in how Treyarch's mixing up the COD formula for it.

So Grunts are now bipedal snapping turtles, Jackals are sharks, and the Elites feet have tripled in size? And they don't even have the sweet sleek helmets that obscure the eyes anymore. It looks like that Elite is wearing a party hat, not a combat rig.

Dont care for Halo, and Im liking where Black Ops 2 is going. But unless my money situation changes, Borderlands 2 is the only FPS im getting anytime soon.
