These news articles are getting very dull now.

It seems after every game with multiplayer is released now, we get a X game has been played for over Y years already, or X games players have killed the worlds population Z times since release.

We get it. People are playing big name titles online. Alot.

You just know that someone at Activision is thinking really hard about how to get away with charging a subscription for all those hours...

That's....wow, a lot of time.

And 12.5 hours of that is mine! It would be longer...then I realised how boring the game was, so I stopped playing. :p

I wonder how this compares with World of Warcraft on the same time period.
Indeed, would be interesting to see how "The Game That Takes Over Your Life" squares up to the socially acceptable game.

With these figures, I'm guessing Black Ops might actually have consumed more time than WoW...

CoD Racks up to 70,000 hours? That's a bit small there >.>

But still, wow. Those a pretty damn massive numbers for a game which seems to get a lot of complaints. Not saying that it isn't expected but those are just damn impressive.
not hours, its years

Good for them. Now maybe treyarch can get of their asses and fix the MASSIVE technical issues?
If you're talking about PC, I played on a 1.5 year old laptop and it was just fine on low settings. Then I built my new computer and I play it perfectly on high settings. Two computers, no problems. Only the occasional crash in menus or before loading, but that's not "massive".

Anyway, how is Black Ops?

Is it an unbalanced, broken mess with a terrible spawn system like MW2?
My summary is "you pay £40 for a patch

Srs, its asif your paying for the game to be balanced again. Once you get passed all the new stuff, you realise the most that there is no 500 foot shotgun or nuke etc etc

This is just sad, as a gamer even I have to say this is pathetic. (while writing this 4 people on my STEAM friends list just got onto Black Ops) (Also, those 4 make it a total of 29 people on my friends playing it and I have 74 friends that have the game)

Man, Black Ops got dull for me after about fifteen hours.
I just couldn't get into it, I don't know why.
Leveling up is no longer addictive, because you have to buy all your guns and stuff now.

at least they actually release patches for COD, and listen to the community forums, unlike infinity ward
Very true, but sometimes it seems like they're going overboard, catering to every whiner on the planet. "Can't deal with snipers? Shotguns? Killstreaks? Well, we'll just gimp the shit out of them so no one else complains!" It's probably better than completely ignoring their product, but I wonder if we would have gotten better support from IW if they didn't fold faster than Superman on laundry day.

It's pretty balanced, which is definitely a good thing, though also potentially boring for some people (nothing stands out as being exciting or over-the-top, so everything's pretty even-keel.). I enjoy it, but I have several friends who have already jumped ship to play other games.

There's no game-breaking glitches or noticeably shitty spawns (aside from Nuketown, which has the worst spawns of ANY map in the history of CoD, no contest), but the netcode is poor and hit detection can get atrocious. When it works it's quite awesome, but when you put 12 rounds into a stationary target and get 2 hitmarkers, it'll make you go insane.

Still, it's easily Treyarch's best game, by a large margin.

Reach is a platform exclusive, so it's not really a like-for-like comparison.
Ahah.

If the Halo series was multiplatform from the beginning it wouldn't have been Microsofts baby as much and wouldn't have been backed up enough to have so many games or that amount of capability, resources etc. Therefore it would be less popular assuming the series survived long enough for Reach.

OT: Black Ops is great, I can't say if its better than CoD 1, 2, or 4 but its sure as hell better than MW2.
However as someone said its a lost less addictive than the others and sort of less playable in a way because of the need to play to buy stuff, then play more to buy more stuff. Soon as Dead Space 2 comes out Black Ops will be 'dead' to me, but I'll remember its epicness.
