So, if anyone cares about Blazblue in this place, I'm glad to inform you that the new game was just released a couple of days ago in Japan's arcade systems. (yes, Japan still has a relatively alive arcade community!) The console versions (ps3/360/Vita) will be out December 17.

The balance is completely changed so all you knew from Continuum Shift 2 is now null and void, here's a video with a pretty well used Relius Clover, you'll notice he plays nothing like Carl.

Btw, if anyone here cares for some online matches or just wants to talk about anything related to Blazblue, feel free to do it in this thread, there used to be a few groups about it but they died out and people there weren't all that serious about the competitive aspect that make fighting games so amazing. There's really no BB community here to speak of which would make this a great opportunity for us to build one!

So, not a big surprise. It's a new retail release, so the balance should be noticeably different and I'm not surprised that Relius doesn't play like Carl (makes sense, since Carl is rarely alone in official art, unlike Relius).

Remind me, what's new in the console version of Extend that prompted the new retail release? I've heard that they're rebooting the story back to the start of Calamity Trigger and incorporating all the characters introduced since then into the story. And also including the new mode from the handheld versions of CS2 (I forget what it's called... Descend? Something like that).

I also see that ArcSys still hasn't addressed the decreasing quality of the announcers (although it's probably the same announcer from CS2).

The new version is retail? Is there confirmation for that on consoles? I know that they are releasing it for th 3DS and Vita but are they doing the same for consoles over DLC? As for changes, obviously there's Relius and tales of an altered storyline but they've made a few changes to the system as well. The most memorable one for me being the frame properties to Gold Bursts. But I don't think there's too many and besides the story, it doesn't feel like it should be a new retail release. I suppose maybe they didn't have enough room for Relius and a new disc means MORE DLC characters so I guess that'll make it a worthy purchase.
They DO need to play about with the announcers a bit more. I still say they should have the characters do announcements in character. Taokaka's would be awesome.

A lot of people thought Relius would be like Carl since both have a drive with a living puppet, though indeed us more perceptive folk never really entertained that, so yeah, while not surprising it is useful information.

This is an arcade game, the console version isn't out yet, it will be released December 17. You seem to have mixed the order, first comes the arcade, then the console version, in effect the arcade version prompts the creation of the console version.

As for the story, no, they're not redoing the whole thing. They're just INCLUDING the CT story in Extend with redone voiceworks together with about 6 new paths.

I think Abyss mode is what you're talking about, it's like score attack but everyone you fight is unlimited, instead of just the last few guys.

Regarding the announcers, I found Satou Chiwa to be quiiite satisfying so I don't share your feelings on that. She was definitely work the 6 bucks :D. I just hope they keep the DLC announcers come Extend.

I mentioned this already in my opening post but to remove any confusion:

Blazblue: Continuum Shift Extend will be out on December 17 2011 for PS3/360/Vita!!!!

Now then, the changes which warrant a new retail are the balancing, since everyone plays differently now and old moves have new properties, that coupled with the inclusion of 6 new paths and the entirety of CT's story with reworked voices makes a new disk game become worth it.

Oh and 3DS isn't getting Extend, it just got CS2.

Duly noted, although I was referring more to the fact that this isn't going to be an Arcade Edition-style DLC upgrade and a new retail release, but rather a seperate retail release.

Huh. So they're expanding CS's story with six new paths?

Wait a minute, six? There's only been four characters introduced since the launch of CS. Hmmm... [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBRvbaVnJ1A#t=1m00s] (look at the top of the whiteboard at the second picture. Probably a joke, considering what's also up there, but still. Food for thought.)

Oh ok. Wait, unlimited characters right from the start? Yikes. As for the announcers, I've really not been fussed on any of them in CS. Calamity Trigger's announcer was better than all of them IMO, and Guilty Gear's announcer (excluding Accent Core, which I haven't heard yet) was even better.

Well I'm looking forward to it, most likely getting it on the Vita (don't start shit with me about portables and fighters, please I don't wanna hear that stupid discussion again) as it might even have cross platform play with the PS3 version as they hinted....unless I get a PS3 some time in the future. I knew Reluis wouldn't play much like Carl despite them looking rather the same in concept at face value. This is Arcsys, they have a damn good pedigree when it comes to making unique characters and stay far away from clone territory.

I really doubt the balance has been changed THAT much as you state, they may change some shit around but nothing so big as to being forced to relearn a character. Wasn't like that for CT>CS and CSE won't force you to relearn everything.

The only thing that leaves me terribly disappointed about all this is that Relius is the only new character....really wish they added a few more as I don't count the previous DLC characters as new additions. That is...unless they plan to reveal more later as a surprise..

Well then, how about the new discussion of "why get a Vita when you don't even have a ps3 yet?" huh? :p

I kid, I kid, though on the matter of balancing, you won't have to relearn your characters from the start obviously but the things that work in CS2 won't work here and new things which didn't work then will work now so you will have to relearn a bunch of combos from your old starters for most of the cast.

I've been watching a bunch of videos and there are some notable changes such as Jin's A version ice-car having wall-bound properties when it hits an airborne foe, Bang's throw being airdash-cancelable, Valkenhayn's 3C being instantly techable and Hazama's 214D-B being used in combos now. These changes weigh heavily upon how you play the game and are just a few that I noticed from watching 3 videos so undoubtedly they only scratch the surface.

They have said they will do DLC for this but they haven't said they will or won't do characters as DLC, so I would hold out hope for more new characters. I too don't consider the DLC chars as new since I've been using them for months...Makoto over a year actually lol.

I think we know that there's going to be eventual playable Kokonoe and Juubei, it's only a matter of time really.

When you focus you don't really hear the announcer that much, you don't pay attention to it when you're really into the fight, so although when spectating it may influence you, I haven't been much bothered by even the native CS2 one, one way or another.

So long as there's Taeger, I'm happy.
Did they add Kokonoe?

Tager was buffed a bit actually so you'll be happy :D.

Only Relius is added so far, though they didn't dismiss the possibility of dlc chars.

Litchi is very good still, yes, Bang (who is my main btw, long live the epic couple of manliness and meadbuns! :D) has been improved quite a bit too, his 5B is back to CS1 standards and he has gotten a bunch of 4-seal combos so he can go furinkazan more often.

Figured I should add the official trailer to this thread as well as mention something I forgot.

Now you can play team battles in network mode. This is like Guilty Gear Accent Core's system, it's not anything like Tag in MvC or what have you, it's just a series of 1v1 fights with the result depending on team wins rather than individual ones.

This is Ark Sys's Ishiwatari Daisuke we're talking about here. Every music he makes is off the charts.

Is it just me or is a new one of these out every month...

So the ultimate question here is which one should people actually buy, or should they still wait for the final Ultra Super Deluxe Mega Tentacle package?
