Someone writing a "How NOT to do Your PR" book. He'd be perfect!Guhungus said:Kotick may be a soul-less prick, but he isn't stupid, Morhaime. Why don't you take a gander at your studio's name outside your office and realize that looking at what you represent in any bad way would result in the most brainless action done this side of Tony Hayward's inept handling of BP's oil spill.
View it from all perspectives, next time, not just from your cushy position at Blizzard. We have more than our own testimonies to know that Kotick is a jerk.
You know - just when I was starting to forget that rat fink ever existed, this guy had to bring him back up. The nerve.
If Morhaime can give me anything that Kotick has been good for, besides stockholders, then let me have it. I'd really like to know, be proven wrong, and gain SOME respect for this insect.
And there you have it.Logan Westbrook said:As Morhaime says, Blizzard has an enormous amount of autonomy, and thanks to the revenue that World of Warcraft generates, it's quite likely that Kotick needs Blizzard a lot more than Blizzard needs Kotick.
I couldn't help but to imagine the Blizz guy talking like Gollum. Blizzard is Kotick's precious.Lt. Vinciti said:Defend me Blizzard..... They love you...and in return they will love Kotick!
Yes Master.....we shall make a public statement about your love of video games and kittens...

Seriously, if this guy is so nice, and he may very well be, and everything he's ever said is "taken out of context" or whatever, it doesn't change the fact that he still garners the rage of many, many gamers out there. Taken out of context or not, a good CEO shouldn't be making this much noise.
I don't know what he's like in person, so I cannot comment on that. But I've seen a bunch of people go "Oh, man, dude, he's like, a totally cool guy!" and try to brush off the rage by saying "It's taken out of context, man!"
Really, if he was a good CEO, he wouldn't need this many defenders.
Kotick, dude, I want to like you, I really do. All you have to do is keep your mouth shut, and keep your business tactics legit.

Then how do you explain his stealing my money [http://scarsofwargame.com/DevBlog/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Gabe1.jpg] with all of their low, low prices and insane sales?
Damn you, Newell, and your dastardly sales. Damn you!

Those souless eyes.
That's all the answer I need.
Hmm.Therumancer said:Also my personal conspiricy theory in regards to this is that we're looking at this from the wrong angle. Blizzard is probably scared right now, and with good reason. Their success and relations with guys like Kotick are based on World Of Warcraft. Next month we get an annoucement on the release date of "Old Republic Online" which barring a miracle of explosively bad game design is going to seriously cut into WoW's profit margins.
The timing does seem odd, though the context is hardly odd at all. Blizzard-Activision has the biggest balls in the gaming business right now short of the Big Three (Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft). Even if there was dissension in the ranks, the shareholders would have none of that publicly while they're still doing so well.Simply put I think this is some high level brown nosing, which is why they are doing it out of the blue. The big boys at Blizzard are getting out the knee pads and puckering up. If "Old Republic" fails that will be good, but the way this looks they doubtlessly want to err on the side of caution.
