It's pretty cool that they're making new stuff, not totally milking Starcraft, Diablo or Warcraft.
No thy`re just milking the WOW template
That'd be foolish of them. Why cannibalize their own game?

It's in their best interest financially to do something completely different. Single-shard, steampunk, sci-fi, MMOFPS, whatever. Anything to make it as different from WoW as possible.
I agree, but given that blizzard has now tied itself to activison who have proven themselves lately to be little more than money grabbing bastards they will most likely provide the bulk of the funding for whatever the project turns out to be and they will want results , fast especially given blizzards track record in the field.

Even assuming Activision DOES have much influence in Blizzard as you think they do (which, given what we know, I doubt - Blizzard still self-publishes all their games. ActiBlizz logo was nowhere on WotLK), they'd be incredibly financially shortsighted to do that. Blizzard's name is one of the weightiest in the industry, and I'd think that even the greediest Activision executive would think "Ok, we have one money printing machine. Do we want to take more time and have TWO money printing machines, or do we want to rush another potential money printing machine that could cannibalize our first one, wouldn't be as effective, and would ruin the relatively unblemished reputation of our star studio?"

It's in Activision's best business interest to let Blizzard move at its own pace. Vivendi knew that and left the Big Blue largely alone. Activision should too.

*crosses fingers* i hope so man, i hope so in my mind (and i suspect a fair few others) there`s no doubt that activision holds some sway over blizzard, it`s just a question of how much , to be fair i`m prob just doing the atypical panicky fanboy routine but around activision i`d rather be safe then sorry.

Now might be a good time to invest in cryostasis. If it's from scratch, and completely original, and we dont want to play it from the nursing home, then you will want to be frozen for 30-50 years so you will still have enough youthful vitality to enjoy it.
I jest, of course. We can bet this project has a long timeline, but Blizzard's good at feeding us Scoobysnacks of details. They just gave themselves a big project which guarantees more WoW and more Starcraft and more Diablo goodness to come to fund that puppy.
And if Activision hasn't stuck its thumb in Blizzard's pie by now, they aren't going to. (Feel free to insert gratuitous Yahtzee reference in place of preceding line. You know, the one with pudding...) They are the smart one who leaves the mad scientist alone in his basement. As long as that scientist makes em money, they got no reason to open the door.

Now I'm intrigued by the idea of an MMO pitting vikings against aliens.

Still a "shell of a game" and they've already been hyping it for the better half of a year... huh.

Does that actually suprise anyone now? Regardless that the announcement is already old News by now i knew they were working on a new MMO or at least some type of Diablo-esque Multiplayer Game. I mean even if Blizzard has made WoW (which imho sucks, played for 6 Months, same crap over and over) and makes a shitload of Money from it, they wont stop making Games after all. From what i heard back then, i.e. before D3 announcement they were just waiting to announce it until WoW went downhill, so as not to compete with their own Product, can hardly blame them for that Idea, suprising however that WoW made it that long and, according to Blizzard has 11 Million Players (They count every Account ever created, regardless if those are active Players that pay)

Still theres enough Options from this, at least what they could do with it in terms of Style and Story, but im rather waiting for the W40K MMO or the Fallout MMO, whichever comes first.

I take my original games how I can get them. Diablo and Starcraft are both great but, those ideas are well established, they don't need more help. I have never heard of Lost Vikings, sorry.

No they`re just milking the WOW template
Do you have any proof of this, or is it just speculation?

Anyways, WoW rules the MMO plains, why make another? My guess would be that it would be different enough to draw on a fan base that woulden't play WoW.

Er, whats "Single-shard"?
