It seems to me WoW could be practically straight-ported to PS3... it's got the tech, the hd, and you can hook in a keyboard and mouse. It wouldn't need a new control system.

Of course, how many PS3 gamers would be willing to use a keyboard and mouse for a game, and pay $15/month for one game, is another matter.

I have a feeling that when they say that they often "consider it" they really mean someonementions itand then they all laugh for about 15 minutes and then get back to harvesting players souls.

Having used X-Padder to try and make WoW playable with a 360 controller, I can confirm that what he says is true. Chatting aside, there's just too many things your character can do to map onto a 10-button controller. The best build I had managed to cobble together was sorta workable, but damned if it wasn't complicated. No way I'd want to try and teach anyone else how to play the game the way I had the controller bound.

There seems to be a lot of people dimissing the idea that console gamers wouldn't pay $15 a month to play WOW.

Surely there's already a lot of people who own a console and play WOW?

Of course that means that porting WOW would be foolish, they'd just maybe move some customers around, but I'd say the next gen of consoles would have one, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if Blizzard are the ones to do it.

and they must know very few people would want to pay for subscriptions to XBL AND a WoW-game.
It worked for Phantasy Star so I'm guessing they think it could work for them.
I played a lot of PSO on the Dream cast. I didn't play it after that as they moved on to a subscription charge. I'm not going to pay to play. If I've bought the game then I should be able to play it whenever I want.

I'm thoroughly underwelmed at the thought of MMO's coming to console.

Well I know what I'm NOT getting...

Lets face it Phantasy Star wasn't a HUGE success, it gets by of course but it didn't make any big splashes other wise there would be a lot more crossovers.

If they want to ruin gaming as it is like Blizzard did with WoW since they get everything compared to their big money hog grinder. All of the people I know that play WoW also play in excess Cod... that tell you the sort of people? I'm sorry, maybe I'm just being anti Blizzard, they make a game that appeals to the masses and they're guaranteed complete morons. I mean '11 million players' I would almost guarantee you that 9 Million of them are just plain sad with little or no qualifications simply because they would rather play WoW than contribute to anywhere...

A game 'you can't put down' is a bad thing, it means that those idiots with little to no muscle upstairs are going to be hooked completely. In saying that the whole cross over may not be such a bad idea afterall... Blizzard, PLEASE make this a game that appeals to the masses of retards that populate Xbox live nowadays so I can play my games PROPERLY without some 12 year old screaming down his mic (he got as part of his ASBO to keep him entertained) at me for telling him he is bad at the game when he has negative 500 points..

RTS's have never really worked on consoles... I can't see MMORPG successfully spanning the divide either... not without a keyborad and mouse accessories at least.

Also Wow is portable, when im away as a result of work and stuck overnight in a hotel i'll play it on my laptop. Or if im stuck in town for a few hours and i have some time to kill i'll go to an internet gaming store and screw around on wow for a while. You can't do that with a console.

Im not saying it can't be done, i just don't see it happening for another fair few years. If more consoles go the way of the PS3 then all home entertainment will be part of the same black/white/grey box in a console generation or two.

why does it have to be a wow clone? like someones already said take away the click on it till it dies aspect from wow and implement a more hack and slash gameplay and half the interface issues you guys are crying about vanish.

there are 16 face keys on your standard current gen gamepad, and there is NOTHING stopping keyaboard and mouse being implemented at all. all currently work on ps3 and x360 the latter will not let you use them as a periphereal under the pretense of keeping everyone at the same handicap. guitar hero comes with a guitar and wowclone could easily ship with keyboard and mouse. it's not like your not paying for it.

the cold hard reality is your average psn user thinks psn is great because it's free, and your x360 gamer is typically more interested in direct action games than slow plodding grindfests. blizzard has no idea how to target these people who don't want to spend money or waste their lives farming 12 pelts from 4000000 wolves. it's just a foreign group to them.

take torchlight, throw out that stupid click to move control system and implemet a dual analogue system ALA geometry wars. map the primary and secondary to the triggers, put health and mana on the bumper buttons. hot key anything else to the d pad, the character menu on select/back, the pausemenu on start/start? and i just earned 500,000 sell the game on psn and xblox live arcade so the first 15 dollars (1200 points or 15 dollars is about right for downlaod games) is your first month. keep adding new dungeons and selling themas upgrades will fund the server costs. most mmo's are just glorified chatrooms anyway. people will happily buy new dlc for dungeon crawl chats sessions on consoles. i know i do. hell i buy complete retail games to meet up with friends online.

In other words:

"People ask us all the time to make WoW for console but it would suck. It would suck very badly. Stop asking us to make WoW for console. It would suck."

So replace an accurate and fast control system with one that's inately inaccurate?

How exactly would I cast targeted spells? Oh... that's right... you click with those.

If Torchlight was Gauntlet, that'd be cool. Too bad it's not :(.

You just need to play a pally or Arcane mage!

I think MMOGs on consoles is the next frontier. Blizzard must go where no other developer has ever been.

It sounds like a cashcow.

There isn't a problem with putting anything on a console it would actually help standardize a lot of technical issues with software the only thing that would be an issue is the actual console itself which is a third party that shouldn't have to be dealt with esp. since you already have programmers working on software for a whole bunch of platforms and uniform access going through a whole bunch of upnp ports = bullshit.

Consoles are basically computers on training wheels anyways.
