Starcraft is still the best RTS game out. It doesn't surprise me that people still play it. I'm glad to see cheaters banned though, thats aweosme.

Yeah, I can attest to still being beat down by 12 year old Asians girls on SC.

SC is like a televised sporting event in Korea. I think you might be underestimating Blizzard's prowess in making long lasting popular games. There's also this one they've got out called WoW that for some reason can't be killed by any other MMORPG. Have you heard of that one?

I think the real story here is less that "Blizzard cracks down on cheaters playing games that are 10 and 8 years old (respectively)" and more "It takes Blizzard 10 & 8 years (respectively) to crack down on cheaters playing StarCraft and Diablo II."

They crack down on cheaters fairly regularly, or did anyway if Khell is to be believed (I have no reason to doubt him though). They've simply stepped up recently, probably for minor publicity for the upcoming D3 and SC2 and to get more good press with the legit gamers.

As far I know they're still actively banning people using maphacks or other such cheats in WC3 Battlenet, so it's not as if they've been ignoring it for 8/10 years. If their banning efforts on WoW are anything to go by, they collect a massive list of people who've been cheating together and then ban them all in one fell swoop rather than banning a dozen/day or something.

Well Blizzard is behind all of the mysterious "disappearances" and "suicides" of all the companys that try to outdo them.

...Don't let them know I told you.... shhh.

It can be quite simply explained.

Starcraft>Most other RTS games.

When you combine the fact that it's playable, in essence, by any machine under two decades old, it makes what we veterans call 'A winner'. If companies took a leaf out of Blizzard's book and made games that didn't mince your engine like pastrami and spew it out into jerky high-defness, they'd probably make a bit more money.

Also: People who cheat on their own are rather like people who indulge in fetishes. Doing it on your own and with consenting adults is okay, but suddenly leaping out at people in a gimp suit and/or sex tool is considered grounds for assault.

So....keep your gimp suit in the cupboard.

My wife still plays Starcraft, Diablo 2, and Warcraft 3. She might just be a Blizzard fangirl, though (she also plays WoW).

Diablo II is built around cheaters so banning them is just for the show. It would be mathematically impossible to gain some of the top tier stuff if it wasnt for cheaters hell they even built SoJ/Torch system around cheaters selling duped items so community gets an useful super charm everytime enough SoJ get sold on certain IP.
Urgh...

"Cheating is OK when the game is hard"? If you don't enjoy the game, PLAY SOMETHING ELSE. You're not obliged to do things you don't enjoy, and ruining the experience for people who play properly and enjoy the game is just selfish.

I've been playing Starcraft for as long as I can remember. It's still more fun than any other game I've gotten since. You just have yet to appreciate it's Pixellated glory.

Diablo II is the -newest- game I have installed on my old computer, however I don't play it online. StarCraft is still good after a decade, and when a game has proven it can stand the test of time in this age of mass releasing of new game after new game, well... why not play it?

Lol, I play Diablo II still with my cousin, just to get ourselves fired up for Diablo III. Can't find my starcraft CD key or I would probably still be playing it! Loved both games!

You dont seem to understand the basic fundamentals of the game. When it takes 72 THOUSAND hours of grinding to find certain items, the game economy becomes fueled by cheaters.
