Don't. There's not a redeemable aspect of that game besides the competitive melee play.
Despite what Mr. Grumpypants here says, SC2 was one of the best games of 2010 so you really can't go wrong with it :)

Except when you're absolutely balls at ultra-fast micromanagement. Like me.

Not that I blame the game for it, I just know that when I'll be playing this online, I'll be raging like a bull in a china shop.

my god... wow was made in a modified wc3 map editor too. wtf. this isn't anything special. this game looks boring as hell (wow in space) and isn't really that pretty. it maybe is tons and tons of work, but wtf, it's nothing new.

As for the hate on SWTOR, I think it's mostly because of two things:
1. They are spending a ridiculous amount of money, just to do the same that's been done for years, in MMORPGs, with nothing truly innovative. It would be ideal if those people would focus their attention on those MMOs that are innovating the MMO space (I'm focusing on Guild Wars 2) but we do not leave in the ideal world.

2. Because EA is involved. Compared to companies like Valve, people just hate EA and anything to do with them.
Not to belabor the point, but I think GW2 has received ample coverage.

Man, blizzard is cool people. Mighty big of them to put the brakes on ruining someone's life on the grounds that "It was cool".

It's impressive but there's been far more impressive stuff out there, check out the darkwind project for wc3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbOuVCNtJzM&feature=player_embedded. I tell ya that the stuff you see there are quite alot harder to make aswell as takes more time to make.

Also I would wait with being impressed until we actually try it as I have a hard time believing that it won't be unresponsive which is the most important thing for a game like this.

And for sc2 this project looks far more impressive http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-xpwrBoTLQ&feature=player_embedded

On the subject of other awesome Starcraft 2 maps.

It may not look quite as cool but it's got a lot of great new ideas unlike World of Starcraft which looks very similar to most MMOs.

If this were anyone but you, this would be the part where I say "Well, let's go through every aspect of this game point by point.".

That aside, SC2 being one of the best games of 2010 says something disturbing about either the gaming market, or its audiences and reviewers.
The only real legitimate knock I can think of against the game is that the dialogue is pretty cheesy and the story is mediocre, but I think that if you're playing a Blizzard game for the *story* you're doing something wrong in the first place. The campaign missions are some of the best missions I've ever seen in an RTS, the multiplayer is great, and it works as a spectator sport perhaps more easily than any game I've ever seen.

So yes, actually, I think it's perfectly fair to say that SC2 was one of the best games of 2010 completely on its own merits, ignoring the rest of the market.

That said, I think the new Battle.net service, while having some good ideas and doing certain things well, has a bucketload of problems. But those are problems with Battle.net, not SC2 the game.

My gawd, its sooooooo pretty. I mean this was done on a map editor, like what 40k's Kill Team was made on, it uses DoW models so im guessing its sort of the same thing? But those bosses, im not quite at raiding level yet on WoW so I havnt seen this sort of thing. Shooting through space on a freighter being attcked by a giant void squid, YES PLEASE!

I heard about SC having a good map editor, but HOLY. SHIT. This modder is god-tier.

I think this is actually kinda sad, but this looks almost better than WoW.

FUCK. I may need to consider getting the game now...

This is what happens after i say blizzard will never make a world of starcraft. Some modders go make it anyways, dammit. Guessing there is always a 10 player limit and no reconnect functions so its prob going to be more of a custom game rpg anyhow. In wc3 ppl also made amazing rpgs with MMO feel, one that was dubbed world of warcraft also iirc. Just too bad it so much work but with no benefits.

Also Td's and Custom maps in Warcraft and Starcraft games always been really well made and have alot of game creating possibilities, its where they all come from before they were spewed out on the casual game market.

Color me surprised Kotick didn't put his big fat foot down on this. It's even more surprising than the cool gameplay.
How could he do this? The whole point of releasing a powerful map maker is so people can make good maps.

The irrational Kotick hate needs to stop.

OT: Saw it already, looks amazing for a mod.

"Back in January of this year, a modder by the name of Ryan Winzen posted early footage of a World of Warcraft-style MMO built using StarCraft 2's map editor - and while was rudimentary it was still impressive. Then Activision's lawyers hit the video with a copyright claim"

Wait what, how could they do that? Wasn't he just using the map editor he had bought? <.<

If this ends up being WoW raiding with SCII graphics, then I'm game. I'd say it's a very good idea to have the challenge of coordinated raiding without the neccessity of having to spend countless hours getting your gear up to scratch.
