I can understand the hate for Diablo 3. But, TBH, I didn't like Torchlight 1 much either. Mostly because the gameplay was shitty and imbalanced and the leveling system was broken. It was a 1-button-win-spam-fest. At least Diablo 3 has some skill usage variation.

You could map up to 10 skills to any key you want (0-9 by default) plus an alternate skill for the right-click on the tab key in TL1. That's lots more flexible than the maximum of 4 additional skills in D3.

True, you *COULD* do that. But there is no reason to, really. I've only used 1 skill through out the game. The problem with the game is that it doesn't stimulate you to use different skills. The whole skill system is just badly designed.
Now, Diablo 3 has its share of issues. But one thing I did like about it, was that you had to use all 6 skills at your disposal. Just saying about D3. I don't really want to compare TL1 to D3. TL1 is more in the league of D2. I am going to compare TL2 to D3 once it is released and see if it's better.
Well aside from your usual errors and bs not caused by the connection itself, online only would be fine.
If everyone had that super awesome uber fucking terabyte per second internet speed.
But hey, not everyone has enough money to invest in the best internet connections and cables and shit, but as long as I do I think it's a great idea! And not all servers are located right next to them resulting in pretty much 1-5 ping. Who cares if it seriously negatively affects others!
First they came for the whiners,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a whiner.
Then they came for the cheaters,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a cheaters.
Then they came for the poor,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't poor.
Then they came for me
And there was no one left to speak up for me.
History has proven such logic is seriously shitty.
Yeah, god forbid a company makes a game whose minimum requirements you don't meet! That's clearly comparable to the extermination of thousands of people!
If you don't have a good internet connection prehaps you shouldn't be buying a game whose Minimum Requirements flat-out state that it requires a 'STABLE Internet Connection'
This is less "They came for the Jews/whoever" and more "The Jews/Whoever walked into the Gas Chamber and then pressed the button labeled 'ACTIVATE GAS CHAMBER: DO NOT PRESS UNLESS YOU'RE WEARING A GAS MASK' and acted surprised when the button did just that."
Connection, although as I mentioned does depend on the ISP and cable/modem, it is also an undeniable fact that servers are not always going to be close to you, thus alienating many of their costumers because of such insanely horrible ping due to the closest server being too far away for a stable connection. I guess I should pack up and head to the nearest server if I want to play, and live there instead.

Pretty rich remark coming from someone whose only contribution to the thread is 'WORSHIP THIS DIABLO II CLONE (which unlike Torchlight doesn't even have the excuse of being made by the original Diablo Team)'
I guess anyone who doesn't mindlessly venerate whatever today's group of hacks that are 'capturing the spirit' (read: Copy & Pasting) 12-year old games whose claims to quality are questionable to begin with and who dares imply people shouldn't buy games they cannot run is clearly one of the Man's Biodrone Sheep.
That's the nice thing about bashing things that are cool to hate I guess, you don't need any arguments, you just say it sucks and yell "YOU ARE A FANBOY AND EVERYTHING YOU SAY IS A LIE" at anyone who dares question you.
Making real money currency in your game when you know full well how badly that can go in your existing online game where real money wasn't currency was fucking retarded to begin with, Blizzard.
The irony of the person going into every D3 thread and defending it like it was his own family being slandered, calling other people fanboys, is hilarious. Really, it is.
But all the Diablo-II-knockoff fans swamping any 'Diablo' thread they damn well please and whining about how anyone who makes more money/is more successful than they do/are is evil and how anyone who likes Diablo III is a mindless sheep for being able to play something they can't is perfectly ok?
If this were a Torchlight 2 thread and Diablo III fans were doing this, just about everyone who only came to the thread to hate would have been banned in a heartbeat.
