Blood Giving

So about an hour ago I gave blood for the 3rd time. Now, I love the whole idea of blood giving but this time took a good 2 hours to get in to get my blood drawn. And afterward, I started to feel all fuzzy, warm, and generally lovey feeling. This hasn't ever happened to me before but I think I kind of like the feeling. So I've got two questions for you. Have you ever given blood? And if so, what was the weirdest feeling you were left with afterward? And for those of you who haven't given, why?

As for that warm, fuzzy feeling.............I felt the same after a nurse gave me medicine for the flu that I had......I was all achy and warm.

I'm afraid of needles, my blood type is O+, and they want me donating whenever possible. As much as I dislike needles, my blood is needed by many, and I will overcome my irrational phobia.

I can't stand the idea of doing something that might save the life of someone i wouldn't like.

I've given pretty much every time I was accepted as a donor, since some travel left me unable to donate for a while. In Texas, I encountered a procedure I was unfamiliar with which allowed for the extraction of an additional unit of blood (provided the patient could reasonably tolerate it). The procedure had a strange side effect of making me smell oranges for quite a while. I tried to find out more, but apparently whoever sticks the needles doesn't seem to know much more than how to hook it up, or at least they didn't feel like discussing.

ask tthem to take double red. Thats when they take twice the amount of blood, but pump in sieline (or however its spelled. Its prounounced Say-lean, though not spelled like that). Or ask them to take double Plasma. thats when they take the plasma, and not the red blood cells. thats weird.

though, I htink the weirdest i ever did (and by promise i cant mention where), I had quad red taken. Thats double double red. and double red is supposed to be the max. I was OUT for hours.

I've got no problem with giving blood it's just I'm a bit too lazy to go get my blood taken. I gave blood for the first time last year when there was a mobile centre for giving blood that I walked past on the way home from college. Thought "Fuck it, why not". Didn't even feel the needle going in when I did it.

I've given twice.

The second time I passed out because I hadn't eaten any protein, just carbohydrates, which devolved into sugar. Sugar does not help replenish blood, and it didn't help that I had had about 3 hours of sleep. That little adventure was entertaining.

In case anyone is seriously considering not giving after this anecdote, bear in mind that the nurses were literally right there. I was out maybe 2 seconds before they woke me up. The people they hire to do this stuff are very, very good at their job.

I never gave blood, even though there were numerous opportunities to in high school. I'm not afraid of needles, or medical stuff like that. I saw a live knee replacement surgery once. It's just that if they're in me, taking out one of my most vital tissues?I can't watch it.

When I had cellulitis, I had to get blood drawn. Like 5 or 6 vials. I watched it, and felt really lightheaded during, and after the event. I think this might be the only reason why I've never given blood. I know they give you a table to lay on, and you get food afterward, but no. I won't.

sounds painful and that it just takes too long. oh and its really really bad that you felt the way you did. you should probably wait awhile for your next drawing if there will be another.

I give blood regularly. It only takes about 45 minutes (10-15 for the actual bloodening) and I've never had any health issues with it, even though my blood pressure is really low. There's no good reason for me not to donate blood, since I can replenish it every 54 days and I get free cookies and juice.
I have to say, though, if I were afraid of needles, nobody would ever get my blood. Nobody.

I've donated about six times now, and once I almost passed out in the class after I donated. I'm sure it looked weird for me to suddenly get up, walk over to the aisle, and just lay down.

I can't give blood because I have a blood disorder

EDIT: I'd have no problem giving blood though if I could. I'm incredibly used to being probed by needles at this point. As it is, I go for weekly blood-work because of my condition (my platelet levels need to be monitored), and one time, early on when they were doing tests on my blood, they took like 20 frickin' vials in one sitting. Boy was I ever nauseous after that :O

I always donated blood when my school had a blood drive, twice a year for four years. It helped people and got me out of class for a couple hours .
