At only $100,000 a pop. Happy now?
But really, these things actually do look practical. Could you imagine paramedics or police coming in on these?

THAT. IS. AWESOME.

It's official: we're living in the future. Now we just need spaceships to travel to other planets and we're set.

I'm gonna rob a bank and buy one.
Then use the power of the jetpack to rob another bank?
sure, what are they going to do? Catch me?
Yeah, my thought too. Robbing another bank would be the only logical step at this point. However in the long run you should try for world domination.

It's 100k now, but that price will come down to something way more affordable 10 years from now. Man, If EMTs could have these things and fly to a scene to provide care until the ambulance gets there, that would be great. I don't think I'd want to be flying one in a combat zone, though - too big a target.

I want one so badly...
I guess I'll have to listen to video's recommendation and go GTA:SA on their asses and steal the Jetpack.

Special forces? Meaning soon we're going to have news footage of squads of soldiers flying on these screaming "DEATH FROM ABOVE!"?

Various types of jetpacks have been around since the early 1960s. You'll see several news articles about how jetpacks have finally been "invented" per year if you're paying attention.

Why, then, aren't they common? Well, turns out outside fiction, they actually kind of suck. Maybe this one is finally the one that's good for something other than making a cool demonstration video, but I somehow doubt it.

Sounds all like a great plan. only one problem. What if the good guys get jetpacks too?

Don't forget hovercars. And not those silly plane-hybrid things.

Why yes, science and engineering should just forget about all that "improving the overall quality of life" thing, and instead focus on the "this looks awesome" thing.

That's what I usually say whenever jetpacks are brought up as some kind of "benchmark" to "percieved usefulness" of science and engineering in the eyes of the wider public, and I might have been confronted by that "Dude, where's my jetpack" shtick one time too many.
