Damn it Kotick! That actually sounds kinda reasonable, from a buisness standpoint.
Though the DLC could be things that were deliberately left out of the game, solely to put them in as DLC later.
And that's really all project 10 dollar is, right?
I only have a couple of Activision games but my wife recently picked up Black Ops and I'm pretty impressed with the amount of content that they include with what they could just as well sell as an online multiplayer shooter.

That said: I don't think we'll be buying any $15 map packs but I also don't think we'll be selling or lending this title out either. He's right, pack in enough content and let players expect future support and we will hold onto the game. Give us a 6 hr campaign, tacked on multiplayer, and overpriced exclusive dlc (for another console), and that game is going to get passed around like joint at a phish concert.

The reason that so many publishers are opposed to used game sales now (as opposed to 5-10 years ago when they didn't care) is because it is no longer a good value for anyone but the retail chain gouging the prices.
Years ago a gamer could buy a decent game for $5 used and still have enough money left over to buy a new game. Everyone has limits to their expendable income so when a gamer buys a used game now-a-days at $58 (saving a couple of bucks off a new copy) they don't have enough for a new game as well.

Even if it might be early... Hallelujah! I say! There is some win in this sector, captain. I've been a wow player for almost 2 years now and I'm not ready to give it up, since all the new good stuff that comes out. It's the right way to do it, I think. DLC that comes extra to the game content, not is just part of the game in the first place like project 10 dolla. To Kotick, you sir, deserve money :). Keep up this good, rather suspicious movement towards the better end, like defending Games' right of free speech, handling better second hand sales... what's next? I hope for the best, even if it is too soon.

I see nothing wrong with Project $10. Bioware for instance has made it clear that if the stuff they make as DLC wasn't DLC, it wouldn't be made at all. I'd rather have more content than no content personally. It was just a good idea that was marketed horribly.

I thought it was something like tax and stuff because in http://www.kotaku.com.au/2010/11/why-do-videogames-cost-so-much/#more-423177 they say the money is not going to retailer or publisher, they say it involve complex issue like local tax rate, operational costs, how the game is rated and such.
The article was a semi interview with a Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney, however since I only been on the site for around 3 time I don't know if it can be trusted.
I owe you an apology. I wasn't aware of such regulations. Thanks for the information.
