Here's the expression, frogs are cold blooded creatures and thus their skin adjusts to the temperature around. So supposedly you could put a frog in hot water and slowly increase the temperature until it boiled and dies.

So the thing is, how long does it take for you to realise that you are being 'boiled'. Some people don't realise it for their entire lives, slowly dying.

There's also the short term types, like a 3 hour dream when you realise that you're not supposed to be a flying cat and wake up.

Or thinking back on the day and remembering that you've been alternately shouting and kissing everyone. (Dr House would have spotted that immediately and attribute it to a neurological disease)

I think I see this in domestic abuse victims.
You look at many emotionally, and physically, battered women, and they have been experiencing it for so long that it's normal. They'll go from one abusive guy to another, thinking they either deserve the treatment, or they can't 'do any better'. It's extremely sad to see.

In my personal life, I certainly don't have anything so dramatic or heavy.
I can't think of anything, really. So either I'm boiling right now, or it hasn't happened.

For the last time, Morpheus, I don't give a shit about the Matrix. Just let me boil in peace!

And stop mailing me phones - it's totally creepy.

There is this line where "deep" turns into " plain stupid". You've crossed it.

I probably realize it the moment I find myself on a giant stove

I guess the moment I realise I'm being boiled is the moment I realise that I'm dying.

I dream that I am alive for the 3 hours I sleep. Then I realise I am still dying.

All I can think about is when I was happy, when I celebrated.

I'm not sure what this is exactly...
I'm just going to say "brown", because DWMC? showed us that is a universal answer for everything... Except for when you're a crazy man who's locked up

This is an odd conversation...

I suppose people don't realise they're being boiled, as they've never lived any other way.

You get a lot of victims of bullying the way you describe it OP, it happens both in school and in the workplace.

Some people are victims all their life.

Great, you just made me think that Morpheus was grooming Neo... thanks for that mental image.

"Excuse me I'd like to get out now. What do you mean I can't? What do you mean I'm not ready yet? Hmmm, something is afoot."
